The Controversial Jorts Trend: What It Is & How To Style It

As any girl next door who loves fashion and comfort, I greatly appreciate some of the confluences like skorts that just make life easier and cuter. One such Adam Sandler-inspired 'fusion' that has recently reached our feeds, all the way from the vaults of the 2000s, is Jorts, which are essentially a style of shorts that have a more relaxed fit and are slightly longer. We have seen them on many spring fashion runways, Hailey Beiber rocked them while grabbing a cuppa, along with the girlies of TikTok who cannot stop making 'Hot-Take' videos on the trend. And though I, too, have many of my own opinions when it comes to Jorts —like how this might not be as flattering for plus sizes or look 'Noddy-like' on short people —the algorithm has pushed it to the extent that my heart has slightly warmed to the concept. So, as the Internet can't seem to stop talking about them, here are our styling tips for rocking the 'jorts trend' if you are interested in taking the plunge, channelling the classic jeans with a 'lazy-boy' take on them. Keep reading for some style inspiration.

The Acid Wash Version

With everything 90s taking over, it only makes sense to try this trend with an acid-wash pair, rocking them with cool glasses, baby tees, and fun sneakers. This way of sporting jorts has been on the rise, which looks casual yet cool and contemporary, making a chic-effortless statement. It's also popular among Instagram influencers and popularly chosen for fun day outings. We love this fit from Tzefits, who is always right on trend.

Go Darker

Black bottoms are a classic piece in any wardrobe. They go with everything and on all occasions. So, a black jort only makes sense. You can pair them with basic white tanks to create an everyday look while accessorising them with shoulder bags and chunky belts. Another very in-trend way to style would be animal print tops, as Elianna Arvizu has done, looking very much mob-wife aesthetic coded.

The Classic Might Be The 'IT' Way

Nobody can go wrong with a simple, tiny white T-shirt and baggy bottoms; it is the 'IT' everyday fit for a reason and will never go out of style. Jorts work perfectly as baggy bottoms; not only is it the easiest way to partake in the trend, but it is also a no-doubter slay that will always serve. Go with the classic denim jeans colour here (not too dark, not too light), and to elevate the look, opt for statement shoes, just like Alicia Roddy.

Denim On Denim Never Fails

Another classic, comfortable, and supremely stylish way to hop on the Jorts trend is to inculcate it with denim on denim. It's sophisticated, comparatively formal, and looks chic. The similar silhouette creates a flow to the outfit that has an edge to it. While making sure your accessorise right is important to take the fit to the next level, similar to Olivia Hirst's neon bag in the picture above, what's more important is paying attention to the fit and structure of your top and pants. Denim is a thick material, so you want to make sure it's a fit that you like. We'd suggest going for a top that is true to size in order to balance out the baggy fit of jorts. For accessories, go for a classic watch and a cool pair of shades, and finish the whole look with sporty ballet flats or sneakers.

Layer Them With Blazers

We saw many celebrities style their Jorts this way, especially Hailey Beiber, and it surely gives corporate core in a fun way. Blazers have been having a moment since last year, and layering them up with Jorts sounds like it won’t make sense but actually does. It gives you a sleek and sophisticated fit that's great for formal settings. Carry a vintage-looking shoulder bag and a fun pair of sunnies with kitten heels.

Add A Retro Touch

According to us, the best on-the-way look came from Alessa Winter, who played around with the conventional silhouette of the Jorts as well as the colour and created this monochrome look while completing everything with chunky boots. This oversized, unstructured look not only captures the essence of Jorts, but the oversizing ultimately brings a flow to the look, which is one of the many reasons people are opting for Jorts.
