Ten-Second Takeaway

We all recognise Mussoorie as a go-to location for a summer vacation spent strolling across the Mall with the family. The JW Marriott Mussoorie Walnut Grove Resort and Spa can ensure you have a more extraordinary time with their custom-made treks and tours, and of course, a luxurious stay.

Go {Wal}nuts!

141016_JWMarriot Stay At JW Marriott Mussoorie To Witness Mussoorie Beyond The MallSpread across the hillside, the sprawling property prides itself on its walnut grove – made evident with the fresh walnuts greeting every guest in their room upon arrival. As part of the Walnut Trail, we also had the opportunity to see them being plucked, gorge on some delicious walnut-inspired food, and even plant a sapling!

With their gorgeous lawns and greenhouse, the indoor pool and den, and the Cedar Spa by L’Occitane, it can get tempting to just lay back and stay within the hotel premises {snacking on those walnuts to gain some health points} – but to make the most of your stay with the JW Marriott Mussoorie Walnut Grove Resort and Spa, we recommend opting for the activities they offer in and around town.

On Your To-Do List

141016_JWMarriot1 Stay At JW Marriott Mussoorie To Witness Mussoorie Beyond The MallNature enthusiasts can opt for the treks: We were taken around the bird sanctuary, a part of the Rajaji National Park. The lush jungle criss-crossed by rivulets and mighty deodars made us never want to leave {till we came across those nasty nettles}.

Other options available include shorter treks, like the one to the renowned Kempty Falls, and more challenging ones, such as the Benog Hill Trek. All of them come with beautiful views of the Himalayas, and a thank you note from your lungs.

Another super interesting location on our itinerary was the small village of Bhatoli, where corn is stored hanging upside down from every house, which makes for an {pun alert} a-maize-ing sight. A chat and lunch with the locals are sure to add greatly to your experience. And did I mention all the going to and fro can be done on Royal Enfields?

The hotel also whipped up a healthy dose of Mussoorie history with an exhibition of rare artifacts, a heritage walk around Landour {note: don’t miss picking up goodies from the famed Prakash Stores}, and a chat with writer Ganesh Saili in Mullingar, Mussoorie’s oldest house, who reeled us in with his stories about the old and new residents of the area {yes, we learnt stuff about Ruskin Bond}.

A Taste Of The Hills

The chefs at the here are well-versed with their continental and Oriental cuisines, but their magnificent thali, prepared with local ingredients like gahat, bicchu ghaas, and the mustard-like jakhiya, is a real primer in Garhwali food.

The evening kachdi sessions out in the lawns are also an introduction to Garhwali get-together traditions, and the fresh bhutta with chai only makes things better.

They also have more tailor-made experiences, like serving breakfast in their farm, or in the literal middle of a stream {the trek to the stream only makes the food more worth it}.

So, We’re Saying…

If you would like a combination of the Garhwal landscape, hearty walks in the midst of nature {and heartier meals at the end}, and a learning experience about local history and culture, this is for you.

Go solo, with your partner, the parents or a bunch of pals—the JW Marriott Mussoorie Walnut Grove Resort and Spa can guarantee a comfortable trip which will keep your brain, heart and stomach happy.
