Kuuraku From Japan: Now Open In Gurgaon

Ten Second Takeaway

Kuuraku, which operates in three other countries as well, brings its specialty, grilled chicken, and authentic-but-approachable Japanese food to Golf Course Road.

Curious about Kuuraku?

Kuuraku is a Japanese yakitori specialty chain. Yakitori is essentially skewered food, an easy evening accompaniment to informal drinks, and is most commonly used to describe meat grilled over charcoal. In the case of Kuuraku, grilled chicken skewers are their signature dish and they’ve brought it to Gurgaon.

Dining in

Set on the ground floor of Global Foyer {otherwise known as the Striker/Manhattan building}, the ambience is adequately amiable with floor-style cushioned seating around low tables and a few semi-partitioned cubicle style tables for those who prefer not to get their knees in a twist.

This, too, is authentic

Our expectation of what is authentic Japanese food may not be credible, and we loathe to drop in this overused word, but given that the food is consistent with Kuuraku’s 21 outlets in Japan, three in Canada and one in Indonesia, we’re assuming that the flavours are sufficiently suitable to the tastes of people who do know their udon from their ramen. Even though there is spaghetti on the menu.

LBB likes it for…

Its set lunches, particularly the slighter Ladies Menu, which makes the process of choosing less overwhelming. Don’t expect elaborate sizzling platters; this is more of a quick lunch for what is commonly called the ‘salary man’ in Japan. We also like it for trying to be friendly, and their delivery service during 5.30pm to 7.30pm {for which orders have to be placed between 9am and 5.30pm} which is the healthiest hour to get down to dinner. And for their decision to be closed on dry days, because really, what good is that grilled meat without a few cold beers to wash it down?
