What Makes It Awesome

Planning a holiday in Kochi? Hit the white sand beaches of Kuzhupilly. It is a tiny village in the Vypeen islands of Kerala that harbours the Kuzhupilly beach. To get here, drive out from Kochi via SH63 and you should reach in roughly about an hour. We suggest driving because once you hit the road that leads to the village, you are blessed with views of the tranquil backwaters, chemmeen kettu (prawn farms) and paddy fields. The roads are narrow, so it's best to be mindful and drive slow at all times.

It is the place to escape the hustle of the city, therefore, do not expect large crowds or fun activities. Come here to kick back and enjoy a gorgeous evening sunset with a view of the fishermen in their boats out at sea. This white, sandy beach is also ideal to go swimming. Note that there are no life guards here, so go, swim only if you have experience in open sea swimming. Once you’re out, make sure to take cover under the huge coconut and pine trees!

If you’re bunking at the beach for a while, the only food available is snacks at chayakadas (tea stalls), so it’s best to pack your own (especially water). If you’re in the mood for some typical Kerala seafood, head north, towards Cherai beach (4 kilometers away) and you will find plenty of local eateries. There are a few churches, temples, and also a couple of prawn farms in the village if you’re up for some exploration. As it is located an hour from Kochi, we recommend you stay in the city and hit the beach for a picnic with family or just soak in the sun with bae.

Pro-Tip

This beach is popularly known to host the Kerala Kite Festival, all the more reason to head here, we say!
