Vanilla, Jackfruit & Cheesecake: Delhi's Got Ice Cream For All Palates

We’re not talking about the trusted mango and choco bars from our even more trusted ice cream carts. We’re talking real ice cream parlours, the kind that rival Pop Tate’s, ice cream makers, and our version of the ice cream truck. This is some of the best ice cream in Delhi and Gurgaon.

Nirula's

Nirula’s has seen us through our childhood as one of the pioneers in the Delhi ice cream market. Whereas you may have seen many of their outlets disappear, they’re officially back in several locations. Whether you favour their Hot Chocolate Fudge {we sure do!} or their Jamaica Almond Fudge, you’ll always leave feeling happy and, in most cases, nostalgic.

Giani's

This is another one of those old-is-gold spots. In business since 1956, they’ve only grown and now, you can spot them all over the city. They’re famous for consistency, and flavours such as Honey Nut Crunch, Punjabi Delight and Kaju Kishmish, and believe us, that’s only the tip of the ice—we want to say berg, but we’ll go with ‘cream sundae’ instead.

Azote

The ice cream here isn’t on display like in other places. You choose your flavour and they blend it in front of you, using liquid nitro, creating quite the spectacle. Once the smoke fades away you have yourself the perfect cup of ice cream, complete with a wafer and an injection filled with chocolate sauce.

Choose from flavours such as Vienna Coffee, Blueberry Cheesecake, Red Velvet and even Pop Corn.

PS: You can also head to Niice Cream for a similar experience. They do a delish Nutella and a red wine one.

Whipped

Made famous thanks to its cheesecake, Whipped also has a dedicated section of home-made ice creams. Their Belgian Chocolate is the hottest {or coolest?} selling, but we also have a soft spot for the Baileys and Java Chip. The creamy rich texture here is unparalleled, and they do same day delivery all over Delhi.

Price: INR 450 for two {approx.}

Baskin Robbins

This was one of the first proper ice cream parlours in India, and launched with its whopping 31 flavours. Whereas more flavours such as Red Velvet and Banana Caramel have been recently added, the Mint Chocolate Chip and Banana Strawberry still remain the most popular. If you’re looking for a little something extra, go for the brownie ice cream sandwich, or one of their chocolate bars.

Naturals

A Pune import, Naturals finally made its entry into the capital and boy, were we glad. As the name suggests, the focus here is on natural ingredients. From their best-selling Tender Coconut, to watermelon, chikoo and even jackfruit, each flavour is bursting with freshness. They’re not high on preservatives, so if you’re taking some home, make sure you finish it quickly {which is the easiest thing to do!}.

Price: INR 200 for two {approx.}

PS: You could also visit Thancos in West Delhi for unusual flavours such as Mirchi, Green Tea, Paan, Anjeer, Apple, Chikoo.

Haagen- Dazs

Although we’ve heard stories that this brand is kinda racist; this is Delhi’s answer to a luxe ice cream experience. From the ambience, to the presentation of your dessert, it’s top-notch treatment all the way. Indulge in the uber fancy version of a banana-split, complete with a crispy waffle to go with it, or the Eiffel Tower, which is a combination of cookies and cream, Belgian chocolate ice cream with a brownie, whipped cream and dark chocolate.

Sinful is the only word that comes to mind.

Follow them on Facebook here.

Diggin

They have a wide range of gelatos to choose from, including a Strawberry Cheesecake, which we think would be the perfect end to your meal. If not strawberry, try one of their other flavours – just as good. We say, pair their Blueberry Cheesecake gelato with the uplifting, cheery ambience and decor, and we can guarantee you’ll be a happy camper.

Price: INR 1,000 for two {approx.}

Minus 30

Did you ever believe ice cream could be… healthy? With Minus 30 and their endeavor to create artificial-flavour free ice-cream, it actually kinda is. Prepared with fresh fruit and cutesy names like Lemon Lunges and Banana Boost, each bite is full of flavour.

The only catch is that you have to place your order in advance. Or you could try a bite at Andrea’s Eatery.

No compromise here, we promise.

Price: Starting at INR 750

Movenpick

You can indulge in the creamy sweet goodness at their small kiosk at certain malls. Choose from a range of exciting flavours {we’re partial to the raspberry and caramel} either plain scoops and sundaes, or combos with waffles and pancakes. They also offer tasting platters if you want to sample a little bit of everything.

Price: INR 400 for two {approx.}

Kulfiano

You may have noticed kulfi specialists Kulfiano’s stall on the main vein of Hauz Khas Village. Next time you find yourself out there in the sweltering summer heat, we suggest you stop and try them out. Our favourites among their flavours are the refreshing mango, anaar, and, of course, the paan kulfi.

Ice Ninja

Ice cream rolls make for an interesting visual spectacle – all the ingredients are poured onto an iced grill, topped with Oreos, fruit, all your choice of toppings, right before your eyes, it is rolled up and served in a bowl.

What should you have here? We strongly recommend the Mango Jalapeno rolls.

Bhane

Bhane knows how to make their ice cream look ace. You’ll find these in pretty pastels with a few bright hues in between. Choose from unusual flavours such as Guava, Goat Cheese, Peanut Butter Jelly and Salted Caramel.
