Putting together first poetry manuscript with HarperCollins

What's Happening?

Did we mention that we’re partnering with the iconic publishing house HarperCollins for SIX incredible literary workshops? For Round 2, we’ve got something really special planned for all those budding poets out there, who’ve probably written page after page of poetry but don’t know where to go from there! We’re here, along with team HarperCollins to give you that much needed boost on how to put together a manuscript for your first ever poetry book. Sounds dope? We think so!

Let’s be honest - it isn’t always a piece of cake. For instance, what makes for a good poem? Who are your readers? How many poems are ‘enough’ poems to put together as a book? What are publishers looking for in your pitch? The questions are endless, aren’t they? Well, this session will help you judge your own work, compose a good manuscript, discuss the tips & tricks of revising your poems and talk through the submission process. It’ll be an interactive session, so you can get all your questions answered by experts.

To guide us through this session, we have Sohini Basak, who is an editor at HarperCollins India, working on the poetry titles as well as on literary fiction and non-fiction. She is an award-winning poet and her debut collection ‘We Live in the Newness of Small Differences’ won the 2018 International Beverly Manuscript Prize. Accompanying her, we have Aditi Angiras who is a poet, writer and artist, based out of New Delhi. She is the founder of Bring Back the Poets, a queer collective of South Asian poets. Recently, Aditi, along with Akhil Katyal edited the ground-breaking book, The World That Belongs To Us: An Anthology of Queer Poetry from South Asia.

We’re convinced that this phenomenal duo will give us enough insights & that much-needed push to start working towards collecting our stray poems and converting them into a manuscript. So, join us on June 14 via ZOOM at 2 PM. You’ve got to start somewhere, right?
