Raasta |

You can expect a lot of HKV bars to feature on this list. Relaxed, larger than most of its competitors and perhaps one of the few bars to have a set calendar most weeks, they stay in the vicinity of the Rastafarian culture, reflective in their promotion of Reggae ton, Dance Hall, Dub and old-school Hip Hop. They’ve hosted Mad Boy/Mink, Reggae Rajahs {now regulars}, Nucleya, and Cyanide front man Rohan Solomon – to give you an idea of the genre of live music they tend to program.

Out of the Box |

Spread over 3 floors, we recommend getting in early to catch a gig since the stage area is small, almost at ground level, and situated right next to the bar, therefore ensuring it always gets crowded. Past music acts have included Ashish Nagpal, Switch, and Lifafa. Regular nights include their Sunday Sundowners and The Cool Off Tuesdays.

Turquoise Cottage |

If you’re from Delhi, and like beer and rock music {not necessarily in that order}, chances are you’ve either been to or heard of TC. This particular TC is attempting tirelessly to revive and popularise the live music scene. Although straying from its original rock roots, TC has a gig lined up almost every weekend, ranging from the Blues and Rock, to Soul, Jazz and tribute nights. Their Rabbit Hole Sessions feature senior musicians indulging in some impromptu jam sessions, and can be great!

Manhattan, The Craft Brewery, Gurgaon |

As hosts of last years United Unplugged Uttarakhand concert {organised to help raise funds for flood victims} featuring big wigs Rabbi Shergill, Advaita and Susmit Sen Chronicles, among many others, Manhattan as a space is conducive to live performances and gigs. Fair warning: Their programming is a bit erratic; we strongly recommend you check their calendar before heading over.

Cocktails and Dreams, Speakeasy |

Small and intimate, with a winning cocktail menu, Cocktails and Dreams, Speakeasy is every jazz lover’s haven. They feature a lot of acoustic sets, with a heavy focus on jazz and softer rock. It doesn’t seat too many people, so we suggest an early arrival, also since Gurgaon shuts an hour before Delhi does.

Where: Sector 15-2, Gurgaon

Hard Rock Café {Delhi & Gurgaon}|

They need no introduction. Hard Rock Cafe is probably one of the few venues fully equipped for a live set. With the likes of Imogen Heap and Wolfmother having graced their stage, Hard Rock lives up to its long and rich lineage.

Summer House Cafe |

They program across genres and performers, from Hip-Hop and electronic, to dub and acoustic sets. The good news is they have an HKV post code without being in the thick of the market, so they’re accessible on weekend nights. And, they come equipped with ample space. Summer House is also now venue of choice for Hang Loose sessions, featuring a different artist and genre every week. They’re big on promotions, so always expect a ladies night, cocktail special or some other such happy hour.
