Color me Fall | Make Up Essentials for the Season

The information in this post might be outdated

Wearing a statement lip color is the newest fad I've seen on every other Delhi girl. Others are trying to get the perfect cat/winged eyeliner. So many girls join my class just to learn the smokey eye, because they want to look sultry on a night out. Gone are the days when makeup just meant Lakme and Maybelline. We are now blessed with the likes of Sephora and Bobbi Brown! We no longer have to wait for that annual trip abroad to get our hands on the good stuff. I cannot emphasize how much all of the above observations excite me!

It’s that time of the year when we bid farewell to the bright neons, peaches and corals, and instead embrace fall trends like khaki, olive greens, greys, plums and what not.  It may get a little tricky for the youthful Delhi girl to pull off these colors, but with the kind of choices we have now, I am sure with some help, she can find exactly what she is looking for.

I am putting down my top beauty buys that every girl should look into this fall/winter season, with insights on where you can find them in Delhi to best suit the pocket.

Foundation |

The sweetest thing about the colder months is that make up does not budge, especially foundation. You can put it on in the morning and still expect it to look quite flawless by the evening.  A brilliant one to get this winter is the Bourjois Healthy Mix. It’s a pretty close dupe of the Chanel Pro Lumiere, at just INR 1100.  A little bit goes a long way.

Find it at |

  • Lifestyle Stores in Delhi
  • Parcos at DLF Place Mall, Saket
  • Available online on www.medplusbeauty.com {I don’t recommend buying this online unless you are very sure of your shade.}

Concealer |

If foundation is too cumbersome for you, but you still want to cover up a few imperfections, then just invest in a good concealer, which matches your skin perfectly. Remember, foundation is just to even out the skin tone. Some parts of the face like the under eyes need more coverage than just foundation. When choosing a concealer, ensure very high pigmentation and just remember – the creamier, the better. Drying concealers seldom give good results.

NYX Concealer in a jar has beautiful results for the price of INR 490.

Sephora in Delhi carries the American brand NYX and these little pots are available in seven shades. If you feel that your complexion needs are a little bit more complicated, and can’t find a match within these seven, turn to the MAC Studio Finish range at INR 1300 a pop {7g}.

Brushes |

Real Techniques have been the hottest item on the brush market for some time now, but not quite available in India. These are brush sets that not only look gorgeous in your vanity, but are equally gorgeous to use. I have been using them professionally for over a year now and they still feel like brand new.

I found Ebay’s Global Easy Buy that ships these brushes from the United States. Prices listed include international shipping and taxes, and they STILL manage to make it a good deal!  Use this link to find these brushes in sets or individually.

The price will, of course, vary depending upon the number of brushes you order, and the mighty dollar!  I got this set of twelve for about INR 4500.

As of right now, they should be between INR 5000 to INR 6000.

Lippies |

makeup4

The easiest way to sport a dark, fall lip color is to wear it as a stain. Stains are essentially a layer of sheer color on your lip that become a part of the skin and hold up for a longer time. Give those parched winter lips long lasting hydration, along with your favorite color that stains the lip and is long- wearing. Revlon’s Kissable Balm stains are minty lip balms, which have great color payoff that glides on smooth and stays forever. At INR 600 a pop, these are available at any place Revlon retails, be it a NewU, Lifestyle, Shopper’s Stop or your local drugstore.

Eye shadows |

Urban Decay’s NAKED Palette is now available in India on Beautybay.com.

Twelve high quality shadows that are really wearable, at INR 3726. They come with primer potion that prevents your makeup from creasing.

And then there is khaki or olive green, which is the color of the season. Eye shadows in those colors really work for the warmer Indian skin tone.

The look in this picture was created using MAC eye shadow in Sumptuous Olive.

Dry Shampoo |

We all get lazy when it comes to washing our hair, especially when temperatures drop. Who wants to shiver for an extra ten minutes every other day?

Now we have an easy way to get second or third day hair to look fresh and not oily. The Oscar Blandi Dry Shampoo is available at Sephora at INR 1000 for 50g and INR 1800 for 90g.

I personally think that is rich for a bottle of spray meant to soak up the excess oil at the roots. This one, however, adds shine and bounce, without leaving any white powdery residue on the scalp. The SA at Sephora advised me to not use this more than once a week.

Facial Cleanser |

The dryness in the air soaks up the natural oils in your skin. Try to ensure that you use a facial cleanser that keeps your natural oils intact as far as possible. Use a soothing foam cleanser that gets rid of dirt, prevents acne, and is gentle enough to use twice daily without striping you of suppleness. Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash {INR 425 for 175 ml} suits all skin types and works wonders on acne prone skin, because it contains salicylic acid that doesn't let you break out.

All these dark, fall colors on the nails can be a pain to maintain, especially when they chip even a wee bit. Top them off with my all-time favorite Sally Hansen Insta-Dry Anti Chip Top Coat. It adds the glossy shine all dark colors need, dries them instantly, and keeps them from chipping for up to 5 days. Available at Parcos in DLF Place Mall, Saket. Price | INR 455
