What Is It?

Saras Aajeevika Mela is the lesser-known annual mela at Pragati Maidan that starts from March 23. Organised by the Ministry of Rural Development’s smaller body, Ajeevika – National Rural Livelihood Mission, this one in particular is focussed on supporting rural women across 6 lakh villages in the country.

Who Is It For?

Shoppers, hipsters, girl squads, feminists and everyone who likes the Dilli Haat vibe, but only on a slightly larger scale.

Why Should I Go For It?

We hear everyone who went here last year was thoroughly chuffed, and got some great finds. Costume jewellery, saris, handicrafts, pickles and organic eats, as well as fabrics, shoes, wall hangings, handmade soaps, pottery, accessories and cultural performances, all interspersed over a span of days {right up till April 1}, are likely to make a trip here, thoroughly exciting minus.

Yes, it won’t be anything as big or widespread as the original trade fair, but you can expect artisans from Andhra, Assam, Haryana, Himachal, Kerala, MP, Punjab, Rajasthan, UP, Bengal, Manipur and lots more. The best part: Everything will be priced pretty reasonably {sorry, state emporiums and Janpath, we’re going to make a trek here instead}.

Anything Else?

The entry is free. Make sure you enter from Gate no. 7.
