Delhi's crisp winter air on a Friday night, and a new bar to explore, will always rank high up on the top things to do in Delhi. Tucked into the up-and-coming Greater Kailash 3 neighbourhood, this tiny bar doubles up as a living room finished with a fireplace, a jazz playlist to swoon to, and a warmth I've never felt before at a bar in Delhi.
Born in 1893, Henry J. Button's reputation preceded him as a tailor of charm, wit, and precision at No. 15 Savile Row, where his clientele included dukes, ministers, and even Winston Churchill. His legend went beyond Mayfair with his prized ledgers and antique buttons as talismans. Button journeyed across the world: sipping saffron-infused cocktails at Jaipur's Rambagh Palace, sharing rum with Hemingway in Havana, and trading stories with Audrey Hepburn and Frank Sinatra in Hollywood.
It is this very world of Button that has now been timelessly reimagined in the heart of Delhi. A quiet, glamorous space where the art of storytelling comes to life through the best cocktails Delhi has to offer. Designed with the elegance of tailoring and the sheer intimacy of a story unfolding before you, guests are invited to indulge — where every cocktail carries a chapter of Button's journey.
Walking in is like stepping back in time into someone's living room on a winter night, knowing for sure you're here for a good (and long) time. The interiors are inspired directly by Button's private London drawing room with a crackling fireplace, panelled walls, leather seating and details that speak of his sartorial legacy. A centrepiece personal drawing-room bar, reminiscent of his Savile Row residence, showcases curated rare spirits, marble counters, and tailored brass accents. Lined with a library of well-worn volumes and opening onto a secluded terrace at the back, all bathed in candlelight, creating an intimate atmosphere perfect for a date night with your significant other, or a martini (or two) with your girlfriends.
The focal point of the entire space is, of course, the cocktail program envisioned by Todd Austin, and executed by Sandeep Sreshtha, Head Mixologist at Mr Button. The cocktails span from the 1920s to the 1950s. I started with the Savile Row, which was an indulgent toffee and coffee concoction recalling late nights behind No. 15 Savile Row, where ledgers closed, conversations lingered, and indulgence was the only certainty. Next on my list of favourites (which are all at this point) was the Courtside Kiss that beautifully captured the strawberries-and-cream charm of Wimbledon.
Another cocktail that left a mark on me was the Crown Jewel, which was inspired by Button's travels in the 30s to the East— laced with saffron and gin, the drink is an evocation of Jaipur's royal polo grounds; while Secrets of Saigon, rich with mango, coconut, and jasmine rice, nods to the city's hidden salons.
My ultimate favourite? The one drink I'd go back for, eyes closed? Audrey Hepburn, a refined tomato-and-basil martini that is silky smooth and makes you thank the heavens you decided to wear silk that night.
Further flipping through the menu, you'll spot other artisanal wonders like the 1943-inspired smoky High Stakes and the tropical Pineapple Express, while his time in Hollywood closes the tale with luminous signatures such as Sunset Boulevard and the Audrey Hepburn.
What stood out the most for me was that each cocktail — ranging from light and sparkling to bold, complex nightcaps — is layered, evocative, and distinctly Mr Button. Complementing the drinks is a concise menu of globally inspired dishes, designed to elevate the bar experience. Vibrant signatures such as Chicken Tikka Masala Crostini and Moroccan Spiced Lamb deliver bold and lively flavours, while indulgent classics including Truffle Mushroom Croquettes, Golden Fried Prawns, and Britain's Best Fish 'n' Chips provide richness and comfort. Desserts like Irish Cream Tiramisu and Sticky Toffee Pudding with Whisky Cream close the evening on a decadent note. Our pick will always be the Sticky Toffee Pudding.
More than a bar, Mr Button is a living narrative, a world where indulgence, travel, and intimacy come together.
