The 12-year-old Not Just Paranthas, which has been dishing out Old Delhi-inspired parathas since it first opened its doors, has undergone a makeover and is back with a bright colourful look and a menu with at least 60 different kinds of parathas.
Quirk OutIf you've visited Not Just Paranthas in its prime, you're bound to remember the mini cycle rickshaws - it was one of the first places to get them. The decor was very Old Delhi and this went beautifully with the menu. However, it was a dim space and in light of all the noobs out there, one tends to forget about the oldie goldies.
NJP however, has redone its interiors and is calling out to us with its wooden white chairs, turquoise hues, old matchboxes made into posters and best of all, a metal dish tub as a sink. The space has been done up by Design Clinic and there's a little bit going on everywhere without it being too jarring. We love the old coins pasted on the walls within a wooden frame and miniature trucks here and there.
There's a cute loft with windows too, with lights that shine from within!
Para Para ParathaThe menu is an expansive tale of parathas of all kinds, from the regular aloo to Chur Chur Parathas {our favourite} to pocket parathas {these are smaller and plumper, somewhat like pan pizzas} and dessert parathas.
We're definitely going to try their special Sharabi paratha, which comprises nuts soaked overnight in alcohol. The sheer variety will floor you. We saw corn, mushroom, mutton, chicken, and even a broccoli and cheese on the menu. All of these are served with a small katori of gravy, pickle and green chutney. Must go back in a large group and eat errthing.
And all their parathas are available in three variants: Tawa fried, roasted tandoori, and diet. They're also in the process of launching a healthy menu.
We're eagerly awaiting their liquor license so we can grab some cocktails at their Madhubala portrait-adorned bar.
Retail TherapyWhat are parathas without condiments? And thus, Not Just Paranthas is also going to have a little retail section going on with chutneys, sauces and preserves so you can enjoy them at home too.
