What Makes It Awesome

Sometimes the treats you make for family and friends ought to be shared with the world, if not the world then at least the city to live in. That's a collective learning which has come out of this past year. More and more cooks and bakers have taken their ware beyond the home and for someone like me, that's really good news. I enjoy commercial bakeries but there are times one craves real, rustic, home style cakes made with personal attention and love. That's how I chanced upon Guneeta Taneja, a baker who appreciates the quintessential high tea experience. She loves how the perfect blend of flavours can bring people together over age-old stories and divine desserts. And that’s how her baking journey began. For over 30 years, she has been baking tea cakes for her family and friends, and has now poured her love for baking into Mama Dulce tea cakes.

With a small selection of classics and favourites, she's managed to create a menu that has something for everyone. Priced very reasonably and presented beautifully, these cakes can be ordered home for an indulgent snack or gifted to friends and family for happy occasions, the packaging and presentation can rival any commercial bakery but the taste remains hearty, wholesome and homemade. We tried the Date Walnut and Mama's Chocolate Cake, both of which were moist, rich and delicious, next on the list is the Apple Walnut to honour the season. I've heard a lot about the Lemon Pound Cake but my heart is also set on the Honey Walnut. If you're looking for something a little more gourmet, then she also makes Blueberry Streusel Cake, Fudgy Chocolate Brownies, Zesty Lemon Bars and for something on the healthy front, there are the Healthy Oats and Dates Bar.

Pro-Tip

Best way to stay in touch with what's new on the menu is to follow Mama Dulce on Insta, they post seasonal favourites and new cakes regularly. This is the time to support up and coming home businesses and what better way to do it than with a slice of heavenly cake?!
