Make sure to keep these pointers in mind while checking out an office chair online or offline.
Seat Height: It's important that the office chairs come with adjustable height and it should be between 15-22 inches off the floor with the person's feet flat on the floor.
Seat Length: It's important that there's at least a 2 to 4 inches gap between the back of the knees and the edge of the seat.
Backrest: A typical office chair's backrest should be between 12-19 inches wide and should be ergonomically designed to support the natural curve of the spine with additional support for the lumbar region. Backrests need to be adjustable to support forward and backward movements. The backrest also should ideally reach your shoulders when you sit upright.
Lumbar Support: Your lower back needs support to ensure that the natural curve of the spine is not flattened. The chairs need to come with adjustable lumbar supports to support the inward curve of the lower back to prevent slouching.
Breathable Material: Whether it's the seat or the backrest, your office chair needs to be made from breathable material for maximum comfort. Look for seats with enough padding and mesh backrests.
Armrests: It needs to be adjustable, long enough to support most of your forearm, and wide enough to ensure that your arms and shoulders are levelled and not scrunched up.
Swivel: Make sure your office chair can rotate so that you don't have to strain to pick things up.
