Things To Consider Before Buying Bedsheets

You need to keep a few things in mind before you cart the bedsheet of your dreams.

Fibre Content: Opting for 100% cotton bedsheets is the way to go, as they're soft, comfortable, and affordable as well. However, if you don't mind spending more, Extra-Long-Cotton is the way to go as those sheets are softer, and if you can get Egyptian cotton sheets, that is ideal. You can also choose cotton/polyester blends as they are more affordable, and are less prone to wrinkles.

Thread Count: Contrary to what you might think, thread count isn't everything! Some manufacturing techniques can create higher thread counts, but do not necessarily give you softer sheets. A 300-500 thread count is great (but also expensive) as it lends soft sheets, 200 isn't too bad either and is generally available at a more affordable range.

Weave: Percale and sateen are the two common weaves that you'll encounter while shopping for sheets. Percale is a basic grid-like weave and feels crisp and light, while sateen is a satin-like weave that feels silky smooth.

Mattress Size: You're familiar with queen and king size, right? But there's no standard measurement that brands follow! So, it's a better idea to get a measuring tape out and measure your mattress before buying a bedsheet.

Laundry Instructions: You obviously don't want something that's too complicated to wash! So check the laundering instructions. We bet you'll prefer a machine-washable sheet, and that's why it's best to check it. For example, while silk sheets are extremely comfortable, you wouldn't want to head to the dry cleaners every week, right?

Bombay Dyeing

One of the oldest and largely trusted brands for home linens, Bombay Dyeing has a large variety of bedsheets that they sell online via Myntra. From vibrant florals to somber geometric prints, the brand has it all. Their collection on Myntra is almost entirely cotton, while their range below INR 1,500 has cotton-polyester blends. The thread count is mostly at 210, although their lower-priced range has a lower thread count.

LBB Pick: The Unisex Orange Bedsheets with orange-yellow floral motifs is a bedsheet we liked. It's a double bedsheet 226cm x 254cm in size and comes with two pillow covers 46cm x 69cm in size. It's made up of cotton and has a thread count of 210, the quality is fine, and it's a fitted sheet that may be daunting to fold (you've obviously seen the memes!), but it's a great affordable option.

Price: INR 2,309 on Myntra

Who doesn't love Westside Home? It's a great option for linens and home decor because of its collection (which is quite elegant, tbh!) and the quality as well. The brand's home linens collection is by far the one that we'd love to have, especially for the price it comes at. They have solid colours and prints, which are not your usual embarrassing florals. If you've got a Pinterest board for the bedroom of your dreams, you're likely to find those patterns and prints here.

LBB Pick: Available online only, we have our eyes on Westside Home's Green Printed Design. It's a 100% cotton sheet with a 144-thread count. The size is ideal for a king-sized bed as it is 275 cm long x 275 cm wide, and it comes with two pillow covers too. You can use a mild detergent to machine-wash it and we love how minimalist the print is.

Offering mostly cotton bedsheets which come in an array of prints, the brand's price range is also quite varied. You can opt to spend big or small, and still get a pretty great set to lie comfortably in.

LBB Pick: We love the print on the Lipika Cotton Printed Bedsheet. The sheet is made of 100% cotton, making it a soft and comfortable option. While it does come as a set with two pillow covers, it can also be styled with white or blue pillow covers as it is dual-toned. It's available in two sizes, suitable for a double and a king-sized bed. There's no information on the thread count on Fabindia's website, but they describe this bedsheet as one that has a soft feel on the skin.

Their sheets are 100% cotton, lending a sheet that's comfortable to sink into.

It's not hard to trust IKEA's linen as it's a brand for quality home decor. While their collection of bedsheets mostly includes abstract and geometric designs, they also have some florals.

While this may not be an Indian brand, Portico is quite popular for its range of linen because of how comfortable and soft they are. The brand also has great prints, most of which are striped, abstract, and very vibrant. Several of their bedsheets are multi-coloured and often come as a whole set with one bedsheet, two pillow covers, and a comforter.

LBB Pick: The Mix Don't Match Printed Super King Bedsheet is a great option. With a thread count of 144, this bedsheet has an abstract pink-red print that we love. It's a cotton sheet that's machine washable and is 274 cm x 274 cm which essentially means it's fit for a king-size mattress. And, it comes with two pillow covers as well.

While their range seems a little limited on prints, they do have a wide selection of solid-coloured bedsheets.

With a thread count of 400, this is a bedsheet that not only looks elegant but is also soft, comfortable, and practically invites you to snuggle in. The measurements are 274 cm X 274 cm, so it's ideal for a double bed and comes with pillow covers too.

Vividness and off-beat prints are a mainstay at Swayam. Their premium-quality and high thread count (up to 800) have earned the brand quite a name in the bedsheet market. Swayam offers cotton bedsheets, but you'll find some with a sateen feel and percale too. While most of their designs are digitally printed, they also have a range of solid-coloured sheets.

LBB Pick: We liked their Zinnia bedsheet, it's part of their cotton satin collection. This means that the fabric is 100% cotton but it has a satin-like feel to it, making it a soft, comfortable sheet to sleep on. The thread count is between 210-300, so you can expect an airy, soft sheet that's durable. It's also machine washable, making it a super convenient purchase.
