We walked into Pete's Deli located in Hauz Khas market after a long day of work expecting to grab a quick bite and head home immediately. Instead, we walked into an NYC deli, leaving with an experience that not only felt like we ate one of the best sandwiches of our lives, but also knowing for sure we'd keep going back for more.
Pete's Deli, founded by Tushar Alagh is a small laid-back place that is all about bringing the best New York gourmet sandwich experience to Delhi. The place has a very old-timey retro vibe to it with wrought-iron chairs and tiled walls. The staff is super helpful, attentive, and ready to answer every single question you have! Tushar himself is also always there ready to strike up a conversation, talk about what's new on the menu, what's coming up, basically forging a relationship with every single one who walks through the doors.
We tried three sandwiches—chicken parm, the Cubano and roasted veggies along with a freshly baked bagel topped with a heavy layer of a dill infused cream cheese. Each sandwich can be made into a meal that includes hot, fresh, homemade crinkle fries, a pickle, and a small portion of coleslaw.
The chicken parm was crunchy, super well seasoned, while the bread itself was well made, airy, and so soft, I could've eaten it just as! The sandwiches are huge and super filling, which was much needed and appreciated after a long day. One of us opted for the roasted veggie, it was made with toasted panini bread packed with veggies like tomatoes, zucchini, feta cheese and their in-house green goddess sauce. The third sandwich we ordered was the pulled pork one that came in a hotdog bun, the meat was perfectly tenderised and caramelised served on a bed of ham with mustard and garlic butter—this was minus the cheese, which was accommodated due to dietary restrictions.
You can also choose from their in-house coffees or order your regular sodas to go with your meal. They're open to customisation and also do bulk orders for parties and the likes. You can also order online as well as reach out to them on their Instagram.
Will we go back to Pete's Deli? Definitely!
