Discover the Charm of Lansdowne: 10 Places You Must Include in Your Itinerary

Located in Uttrakhand, Lansdowne Hill Station is where you head for some peace, relaxation and scenic views. The best part is that you can enjoy this hill station in both winter and summertime.

In the winter months, the temperature goes down to 0° with a maximum of 24° and if you wish to experience snowfall, then plan your visit between October to January. The hills are white, and the view is unbeatable.

During summer months, the weather stays pleasant, with a maximum temperature of 30° in peak sun hours and a minimum of 16°. Most people who plan a trip here come to relax and enjoy the scenery around them but if you need some touristy places to visit in Lansdowne, then we've got you covered.

How To Reach: 

Lansdowne can be easily reached via roadways, by either buses or cars. Road tripping would be a better option if you are going with a group in our opinion. 

The nearest airport to Lansdowne is Jolly Grant airport of Dehradun from where you can catch a bus or hire a cab for reaching Lansdowne.

For railways, the nearest railway station to Lansdowne is Kotdwar, at 40 km away. You can take a cab from Kotdwar to Lansdowne if you wish to travel by train.

Who To Visit With: Anyone! TBH, Lansdowne is one of those cutesy hill stations that's great for travelling with parents, kids, your significant other or even alone on a solo trip if you like! 

Tip N Top Viewpoint

Tip N Top in Lansdowne is located only 1.5 km from the city centre and is known to be the highest point in Lansdowne (approx 1700 m above sea level) offering a spectacular panoramic view of snow-capped Himalayas. Pair a visit here with shopping in the main market, as it's only a few kilometres away.

Bhulla Lake

Probably one of the better places to soak in winter sun if you choose to go in the winter season. Bhulla Lake or Bhulla Tal is only 1 km away from the city centre, a lake surrounded by hills and greenery. The entry is only INR 10 and INR 50 if you choose boating. You'll find animals like ducks and rabbits to keep the kids occupied too. Make sure you don’t go on a Wednesday as it's closed that day. The place is well maintained, clean and peaceful, best to sit back and relax here with family or friends.

Bhim Pakora

Linked to Indian mythology, it's said that the Pandavas halted here during their exile, and Bhim put one rock on the second in such a way that it doesn’t topple. Tourists come here to see this wonder (and maybe even test it out to believe it's true).

Darwan Singh Museum

Located in the heart of Lansdowne, this place is heaven for history buffs. Darwan Singh Museum was inaugurated in 1983 to celebrate the achievements of Garhwal Rifles and is popularly known as the pride of Lansdowne. It's a well-decorated two-storey building which flaunts a unique collection of uniforms, arms, and photographs of army persons. One can easily spend an hour or so here with an entry fee of about INR 50.

Tadkeshwar Mahadev Temple

Dedicated to Lord Shiva, this temple is about 37 km from Lansdowne (you'll easily find taxis). It's known to be the place where Tarakasur prayed to Lord Shiva for the gift of immortality. Every year Mahashivaratri is celebrated in all its glory with devotees from far away places.

Timings: 5 AM - 6 PM

Bhalugarh Waterfall

According to our research, a short trek (about 1 to 1.5 km) will lead you to this beautiful waterfall. It's probably one of the best places to enjoy everything that the place has to offer—chirping birds, lush green surroundings, and the sound of the water. It's important to note that peak summer isn’t the best time to go here as the water level is quite low. As per a user, it's a ticketed place with an entry fee of INR 50.

Kalagarh Tiger Reserve

Lansdowne also offers Jungle safari at Kalagarh Tiger Reserve. It's only a few kilometres from Lansdowne main market. The reserve offers jeep safari for about INR 1,100 per person and INR 4,500 rent for jeep. You get a chance to spot deers, sambhar, wild boars, tigers, leopards, barking deer and over 400 bird species. The Tiger reserve remains open from 15 November to 15 June. The weather this time of the year remains cool and generally dry.

St. John Church

The only church open for worship currently in Lansdowne is St. John's church. The church was constructed way back in 1937, but was shut for a long time due to mismanagement and scarcity of priests at that time. It re-opened in 1983 for worship and since then daily prayers have been held here. There is another church in Lansdowne (St. Mary's Church), which was turned into a museum in 1947.

Mall Road

Most hill stations are home to a 'Mall Road' and Ladsdowne too has one which is a cutesy market with small alleys. You will find shops, small dhaba restaurants and residents flocking to buy essentials or making it to work. From utensils to clothes, you will anything and everything you need in case you left something back at home.

Trip Travel Cafe

Trip Travel Cafe is an artistic cafe that serves yummy food along with being a vintage store. The rustic charm of the cosy cafe looks like a page out of a Ruskin Bond novel.  The perfect view from the hill-top and proximity to the St. Mary's Church make it a hit among tourists, the food too is quite nice even though the menu is limited.
