The Rann Utsav’s Here: Stay At The Tent City & Enjoy Music Under The Bright Full Moon

What Is It?

The dates for the annual Rann Utsav have been announced. Starting from November 1 and all the way up to February 20, you have the chance to witness Gujarat’s most cherished asset: The Rann Of Kutch. This is best time to witness the raw beauty of the white desert combined with a fulfilling cultural experience through the local cuisines, handicrafts and musical performances it offers.

Who Is It For?

Photographers, artists, wanderers and free-spirited hippies.

We’d say that with all that it’s got happening, it’s for everyone who’d like to take the surreal desert experience a notch higher. There are going to be handicraft stalls, musical performances, local delicacies and even adventure activities. So in a way, it’s perfect for families and big squad too.

Why Should I Go For It?

There is literally no better time to witness the stunning landscape that every photographer raves about. Apart from the sheer excitement of staying in India’s largest tent city {they set up over 300 Swiss luxury tents}, there’s so much activity that you’re never going to Rann out of ideas. We hear the kite flying competition is one of the most popular pursuits here and that they celebrate New Years and Valentine’s with a lot of pomp and show {study this special dates calendar}.

Go para-motoring to soak in the carnival feels from the top, hit the desert on an ATV or test your aim at the shooting range. If you’re the couch potato variety, there are board games and the cafeteria. You can then punctuate those heavy duty Gujarati meals with spa massages. There’s also pool and archery and a fully-loaded club room to keep you sorted in the day with golf carts to ferry you around. Plus, a certain something called Bungee Run Basketball, if you’re feeling adventurous, maybe?

Pick from the plush suites or the AC/non AC tents but from what we see, they all look utterly gorgeous. Find more info here and here.

Anything Else?

Ring in 2018 doing something offbeat. Watch the exquisite fireworks light up the sky and sing and dance with fellow revelers at the tent city. Or, plan a trip around Valentine’s because, you know, there’s nothing more romantic than curling up in these Swiss tents and spotting constellations with astronomically {or not} inclined bae.

While you’re in the state, make sure you make time for a lot of sightseeing and shopping. Pick up kutchi embroidery blouses or go for a safari to the Wild Ass Sanctuary. Oh, and the colourful fairs by the lake… Why’d you miss those?

P.S. If you’re challenged in the planning department, there are a dime and dozen travel companies who can design a well-rounded city tour around the Kutch festival.
