Reshma Kadvath is a published author, upcycling artist (for the last 25 years), a decor enthusiast and a proud army wife. If you look at her Instragram you'll find a gold mine of decor ideas. Reshma travels extensively and prefers to shop most items from local markets, directly from the artisans, but over time she has also found some online stores she loves. I've to say that I'm smitten by all the brands (both online and local) that she has suggested, all of them are homegrown and absolutely incredible at what they do!
A Few Of Reshma's Favourite Home Decor Brands
Dastkar
Dastkar holds exhibits every season in various cities like Pune, Bangalore, Delhi. Their next one is called Nature Bazaar, which will be held from 14 September to 25 September 2023 in Delhi. Reshma says, 'Dastkar exhibitions are a one stop shop for everything Indian, a treat for people like me who love ethnic Indian arts and handicrafts. All my dhurries are sourced from them.'
Me Meraki
Me Meraki is the store you head to if you're on the lookout for handmade authentic Indian paintings of all kinds. They also host a bunch of online and offline workshops and masterclasses if you wish to learn more about the art.
Khanoom
Khanoom's collection of crockery is so refreshing, everything is hand-painted and, if I can say, done with absolute perfection. I agree with Reshma when she says, 'their exquisite range of crockery is a treat for the senses'. Just take a look at their Instragram page and you'll know what I mean. They don't have a website, so you can click on the link in bio to place orders through WhatsApp.
Runway India
Runway India is an artisan platform that aims to bridge the gap between the creator and you, the buyer. Reshma says that it's a treasure trove from the Northeast, and that their home decor items made using natural fibres like banana fibres, bamboo shoots, and water hyacinths are a must have. Especially their lampshades and planters.
Nushayani Handworks
Nushayani Handworks offers a beautiful range of hand-blocked printed linen. Reshma's favourite is their gathered lampshade, which she feels imparts an old-world charm.
Raeth
Head to Raeth if you're in search for home linens. They have an eclectic collection of Indian prints and patterns that will add pops of colour to your home without being too overwhelming. Also, everything is handcrafted in India.
Aham Bhumika
Reshma recommends Aham Bhumika for hand-embroidered cushion covers as she finds them unique and quaint. They also have lots of tote and zipper bags that are worth checking out. All of the items are made by women in villages of India that have mastered the skill of embroidery.
Fabriclore
Reshma says, 'One of the frequently asked questions is from where I source my curtains. I usually buy running fabrics and get the curtains made. Fabriclore is one place from where I source a lot of my materials.' The brand offers full customisations so the end product is just what you want.
Tulika Kalatmika
Meenakshi is a self-taught artist based out of Himachal. Her paintings are heavily inspired by flora and fauna. While you can get many home decor items painted, like coasters and platters to name a few, Reshma says. 'No cushion cover lover can say no to her exquisitely hand-painted cushion covers.'
Good Earth
Good Earth is well-known and loved; a place where luxury meets Indian aesthetic. Reshma says, 'their dining collection has my heart.'
