Saris, Dupattas Or Fabrics, This 4-Day Handloom Mela Is Just In Time For The Festive Season

What Is It?

UTSAV of Delhi, a social enterprise that’s been working with weavers and printers to keep traditional handlooms alive, is now presenting a massive exhibition at the Aga Khan Hall starting today. It’s called Grand Saree Tradition, in short, GST. Rings a bell?

Who Is It For?

Have a mother who loves woven textiles? Take her or better still, go yourself and get her something to surprise her.

In fact, if we were to put in our two cents, we’d say that handloom has a raw, earthy feel that factory-produced fabrics can never replicate and we wouldn’t trade the former with an unfeeling me-too even if it were slightly cheaper.

Why Should I Go For It?

UTSAV’s creative genius, Shashiv Chandran has been working tirelessly with the weaving community for twenty five years. Thanks to her, modest craftsmen have not only been able to keep the weaving traditions alive but also evolve to appeal to the modern Indian woman who likes Ikat saris with a sassy twist, so to say. So, you’re going to find an amazing selection of saris, suits, dupattas and fabrics that marry the best of both worlds.

If you’re not much for the crafts, we could tell you that post rakhi, you’re going to have a lot of opportunities when you’ll want ethnic clothes and then, you’ll thank us for pointing you here to stock up beforehand… Lots of kantha, mangalgiri, kanjeevaram, tussar, kota chanderi, banarsis and more are waiting.

Anything Else?

The sale will end on Thursday evening so you have very little time to act really.

When: July 24 – 27

Where: Aga Khan Hall

Timings: 11am-7.30pm
