What is it?
Delhi Karavan, which conducts some of Delhi’s most beautiful heritage walks and baithaks, is back with Shaam-e-Nizammuddin.
Who is it for?
Those waiting for a chance to explore the world-famous Nizamuddin dargah and its quaint neighbourhood can join this passionate group of enthusiasts, and attempt to unravel this enigma of Delhi.
Why should I go for it?
Have you always wanted to experience the famous Sufi qawwalis at Delhi’s most famous dargah? This walk begins at the police station opposite Humayun’s Tomb, and takes you across the Nizamuddin Basti, ending at the famous Dargah of Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya, where lie the graves of Nizamuddin Auliya and Amir Khusrau, and which forms the backdrop for Sufi musical performances by famous qawaals {singers of mystic Sufi verses}.
On the way you’ll experience the sights and sounds of the Nizamuddin Basti, passing by Urs Mahal, the white-marbled Chausanth Khamba, the little-known tomb of Atgah Khan, and a 14th century baoli! The conversation will revolve around poetry of Mirza Ghalib, shayari, spirituality, music and the wonders of a bygone era.
