Worried about what size, colour or style to buy? We'll help you figure it all out. Here are some points to keep in mind while buying shapewear.
Stick to your size: Don't size down thinking that shapewear will make you look more firm. Stick to your size! If you wear a large, your shapewear size should be large too. Wearing a smaller size will only cause more bulges and be uncomfortable. If you're buying shapewear for the first time, try one out first. Walk around in it, sit in it and make sure you're comfortable and that the piece stays in place.
Check the clothing label: A medium construction smooths lines; a strong one gives you a full body transformation. So, check the label to know more about the shapewear. Performance is never listed on the tag, but check to see the nylon content of the fabric. More nylon = shape altering. Feeling the fabric also helps; if the fabric is heavy it will suck and tuck your body in shape. Whereas lightweight fabrics will simply smooth out the targeted spots on your figure.
Shop for a high-waist: A high-waisted shapewear can help smoothen lines all the way up to your torso. And that's the best kind of shapewear to get! Try to get a version that goes up to your bra line.
Get built-in shapewear: If you're looking to tuck your tummy and your thighs, get all-in-one shapewear. Remember, the more 1 piece of shapewear does, the better. Wearing two pieces might mean that the seams show through your dress, and you obviously don't want that.
Choose cotton blends: Wearing shapewear in a hot country like ours, can result in you drowning in sweat. Always choose cotton blends to remain cool, as shapewear is generally made out of nylon and spandex, both materials that don't breathe well.
Hand-wash only: Shapewear is made with nylon and spandex, so it's best to hand-wash it. You don't want the elasticity to reduce. Make sure you don't put your shapewear in the washing machine, DO NOT iron it either. Simply wash by hand and let it air-dry.
