Having a garden in your home has many perks, you basically have an open space to chill with a cup of coffee or host a party. Having a good home garden is more than just the looks of it, taking care of plants is literally proven to have a positive effect on mental health (stress reduction, increases productivity, etc.). But it can get a little tricky to take care of or come up with inspiration for how you want it, and that's where these design ideas might help you get going for your home garden.

Vertical Garden For Small Spaces

If you have a small space, then a vertical garden is the way to go. You can either go for a small one on your kitchen balcony (if you plan to plant herbs), a full wall on your balcony wall or a smaller space in your garden itself to amplify the greenery. If you want to fully cover your wall (which means the planter won't be visible), there are lots of plastic hanging planters online, but if you want to give some spacing and put plants in a more patterned manner, you could get a wooden panel to hang pots and planters, it'll give an accent wall look and still add some green!

Choose Your Plants

There are little ways to mess up a garden, and one of them is not planning what to plant and where. Make sure you understand the characteristics of a plant–how much sunlight it needs, watering requirements, and life span–before planting it. Coming to the design aspect of it, see what colour of flowers you want to add, how tall you want them to be, and give a dedicated section to herbs and small vegetables. This would definitely affect the way your garden looks! While on the subject, it's always good to add some mosquito-repelling plants like lavender, marigolds, citronella grass, catnip, rosemary, basil, and scented geraniums.

LBB-Tip: While you can shop online for plants here, we suggest taking a visit to your local nursery and select the plants you want to be in your garden. The result will speak for itself.

Furnishing

Furniture choices really depend on the amount of space you have. You can opt for a small table with a garden umbrella and chairs if you have a large space or go for space-saving options like foldable chairs. Our recommendation is going for synthetic wicker furniture, it needs minimal maintenance and tends to be all-weather-proof, being more resilient and less likely to get spoilt or split. Plus, it's easily available online and in local markets and doesn’t tend to be super expensive either.

Lighting

While there's always ample light in the day, you might want to add soft lighting for evenings or the night, especially if you're someone who hosts parties in their gardens or likes to sit in your garden in the evenings. It's also a super easy way to add some dimension to your garden. It doesn't have to be blinding, just soft light that guides you. In our opinion, it's best to add solar-powered lights as it's sustainable, doesn't get you an additional bill and literally charges itself during the day, so you don't have to worry about wiring as well.

Fountain

Adding a water element to your garden is a great way to beautify your garden. The type of space you have can guide the type of fountain you want; they can range from small ones that you can keep in a corner to huge ones covering an entire wall. We suggest adding the fountain in a place which doesn't restrict the flow of your movement, so avoid adding it in the middle of the garden. Preferably in a corner, enough to add to the space and but not too overwhelming.

Add Ornaments

Decorating your garden doesn't always mean huge and expensive changes. You can also choose to add ornaments to your trees and we feel wind chimes and a bird feeder are among the top picks. You won't need any more alarms when the sweet sounds of birds are there to wake you up! There's obviously more like garden gnomes, bird baths, sculptures, and the list goes on. You can even simply choose to add statement planters to make some areas stand out more than others.

Create A Gathering Space

It's super important, for functionality and also how your garden looks, that you think of a shaded area in your garden space. Creating a patio or even a gazebo, if space allows, would take you a long way, and you would end up spending way more time than you would if you didn’t choose to create one. Make sure this space has the right furnishings, a small table and is near to the doorway for easy access.

If space and budget doesn't allow you to create these structures the best way, in our opinion, is to simply install a PVC sunshade to a wall. We suggest getting a custom sunshade done so it not only saves you from the sun but also doubles up as decor.

Add Tile Tracks

The best way to create a flow of movement is by adding a small track to your garden, and this is simpler than it sounds. Use a couple of tiles to add in your garden as a path to way, not only does this look good but it also provides a clear passage when the grass is wet or muddy due to rains. You can also choose to add plants around this track to enhance the way your garden looks.
