Space-Age Spectacular | Barsoom in Hauz Khas Village

Barsoom* is a new world, removed from the rest of HKV {and most of Delhi}. A woody, space-age and eclectic space, it serves as an incubator for our evolving culture. A space to explore with all your senses; let’s start with the food.

We started with the Mini Lamb Burgers, which was a series of three succulent lamb sliders, with different accompaniments and two sauces; a fresh pesto mayo, and sharp and creamy mustard. One slider was hotter {spicier} than the others. Another played with sweet and savoury profiles, and the third was cheesy and bacon-y. All customers – satisfied.

We also ordered a Lemonana and a Margarita {yes they have a liquor license - queue cheerleading routine}. The Lemonana was authentic in its Israeli – Himachali roots; fresh and minty, and I had no Margarita complaints.

We then ordered our mains, which were Half a Roast Chicken, and Salmon on a bed of Cous Cous. The well-cooked, comforting chicken was served with a side of delicious wasabi mash. Kartik urges all of you to ‘be a man’ and order the roast WITH bones to do justice to the dish.

The salmon is undoubtedly the best meal I have had outside my home in a VERY LONG time. The fillets were cooked in dill, butter, and garlic, on a bed of light and flavoursome cous cous, which had ruby flecks of sweet pickled beets. The plate also had mushrooms and whole garlic cloves served with a Mirren reduction on one side, and spicy toasted pumpkin on the other. Everything worked together and each bite was bombastic.

The other sections on the menu are as follows - tapas, salads, soups, sandwiches, mains, Barsoom burgers, pastas, crepes, breakfast, platters and dessert – so, there’s something for everyone. If you miss Flipside Café, the old favourites have been revisited. Go here for crepes, schnitzel and the grand finale – the Chocolate Banana Torte.

The star dessert {that has won nominations and lost only to the Oberoi} had all the simplicity of nostalgic flavours – banana, dark but sweet gooey chocolate, and biscuit, with the precision of a seasoned baker where all three ingredients were presented in the best and neatest way they could be, without trying too hard.

*Barsoom is a {science} fictional depiction of Mars created by Edgar Rice Burroughs {of Tarzan Fame}.

Mars is the planet of energy and passion. Barsoom, like its namesake, has good energy, and a team of very passionate people behind it. The vibe promises many great nights laced with a spirit of cultural appreciation, which is reflected in all their offerings. It is also the wonderland of the Delhi music scene, featuring new names and the older favourites.

So don’t miss out on this {new} world, where there is {new} life.
