What Makes It Awesome

Located a few kilometres away from ‘The Golden City’, aka Jaisalmer, Suryagarh is a luxury five-star hotel that has drawn inspiration from the beautiful Amer Palace near Jaipur. If a luxury getaway in a traditional setting is what you seek (and have the pocket to afford), this is a place worth considering.

Suryagarh’s design beautifully echoes the architecture of an actual fort—an arched gateway flanked by cannons, a three-level courtyard with stone pillars, jharokas, latticed windows, and a glistening marble floor. With over 60 rooms, they have a range of options (rooms, suites, and havelis) to choose from, based on your preference and budget. Apart from everything the suites have to offer (large bedrooms, a living room, a fancy bathroom etc), the havelis have the added benefits of a private terrace and a full-time butler. Well, if you ain’t gonna live like royalty…

There are a bunch of facilities you can make use of during your stay here—a fitness centre, a cards and billiard room, a spa, and an indoor pool. We gave the fitness centre a miss (we firmly believe in not getting any form of exercise during a vacation), and indulged in a spa session instead.

There are several dining options you can pick from—a meal at Nosh, their all-day dining room, or a cup of chai in the open Central Courtyard. We preferred their outdoor dining options, though. Our picks? The Thar Dinner for its wide selection of kebabs (such as Meat Kaleji Samosas, barbequed quails, and spiced cottage cheesecakes with figs) cooked to perfection and enjoyed in a relaxed communal setting; the Halwai Breakfast for some awesome halwai food; and not to forget, Breakfast with Peacocks, which, as the name suggests, is a meal had at Khaba Fort while being surrounded by scores of peacocks.

Price: Starting at INR 10,000
