Tandoori Chicken & Pineapple Sushi At Sakura's Sushi Fest

Ten-Second Takeaway

Japanese restaurant Sakura is hosting a sushi festival, with over 40 different varieties of sushi in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian versions. There's Gunkan, Hosomaki, Uramaki and the usual Nigiri and Futomaki.

Winning For

Creating a sushi menu which is 50 per cent vegetarian, thereby not making our vegetarian friends feel neglected.

All Is Calm

Enter Sakura through a veiled red half-curtain and all you'll be confronted with is silence {not of the lambs}. The music is played at a low volume and includes instrumental numbers. The staff is polite and again, very quiet. The decor is simple and comprises wooden tables and chairs adorned with red table runners, semi-circular plates and wooden chopsticks.

This is the place you head to when you want to indulge in one-on-one time with your SO or a close friend.

All Is Bright

We were pretty blown away when faced with 40 different types of sushi, and we're not ashamed to say we had to end up consulting the manager, who hooked us up with an assortment of the rolls. Of these, the tempura Dragon Roll was our favourite, followed closely by the Pineapple Nigiri {the tang of the pineapple with the spice of the wasabi is a winning combination}. The Tandoor Chicken Gunkan was interesting to say the least and we'd probably order it again, but just for the novelty of it; this one's also available in a prawn variant.

Needless to say, you're given an endless supply of soya sauce and wasabi throughout the course of your meal. If you want to pair your meal with a cocktail, we'd highly recommend the Sakura Boom - a blend of sake, gin, peach liqueur and orange juice or the Fuji Sunset for a sweeter affair.

Whereas Sakura's menu has sushi aplenty, we'd still recommend you plan a meal before the 17th so you get to try all of it.
