Our quest to locate unique, local, handmade and sustainable usually takes us to the world of clothing, but what when you want equally stunning yet sustainable accessories to pair with them? Hit a roadblock? Clearing the way for us unlike we've ever seen before is Satat. This online sustainable jewellery brand is one-of-kind from the get-go. Created to cater to a neglected category in the sustainable world, Founder Radhika looked to a material and process that one wouldn't associate with jewellery making.
Reclaimed teak wood. That's right! Working closely with old construction sites in Gujarat, Satat buys in bulk the wood blocks that are used to hold up ceilings. This is then moulded and transformed into pieces of art using in fact, the 300-year-old artform of craft block making! The brand's genius doesn't end just yet though. The team of skilled artisans go on to use only natural colours and dyes to colour every piece (think indigo, turmeric, gypsum, even charcoal). As a result, these processes together make timeless jewellery leaving very little carbon footprint.
Also, prepare for too much eye candy because Satat's collection is vast! Understanding that jewellery is an experimental medium, their aesthetics range from intricate tribal motifs to contemporary minimalism or statement. We can't get over the minimal Omen Hoop and Tribal Tradition Earrings. The whole wood rings and nosepins will be unlike anything your fingers or nose have donned. Another hit section are the Hair Adornments. Super chic, your hair in a bun won't go unnoticed anymore!
The biggest surprise yet is that these are super duper lightweight, even the bigger statement neckpieces!
