Shortcut

Situated 6 kms outside Ranikhet and away from all the stress of Delhi {you know it’s true} is a gorgeous homestay, done up in wood, stone and glass, managed by a wonderful couple. Go here for some much-needed downtime and fresh mountain air.

What's Cooking?

Ranjit is an excellent cook who is happy to whip up simple yet delish meals for you {using the freshest hill produce}. From masala omelettes, chicken {or mutton} curry to saag, you’ll be indulging in second helpings for sure. But the star of the show for us was easily the home-baked multigrain bread – toasted and slathered with butter. So much win. The market is close by but if you’ve gone with the objective of some good ol’ R&R, you won’t really need to leave. There’s even a TV and free Wi-Fi {yes yes the mountains are all about disconnecting but hey, we like watching movies in bed on vacay}. The hosts tell us that the nearby Umang Store is worth venturing out for – head here for hand-knit woolens, jams and spices, all made by the locals.

Chillin In The Hills

You can just sit on the porch and stare into the mountains, pick up a mat and do some yoga {the sunrise might just inspire you to do a whole lot of surya namaskars}, make yourself a cuppa coffee and curl up with one of the books in the living room next to the window. The possibilities to unwind are endless and you really will feel at home here {we did!}

So, We're Saying...

It’s pretty ideal for a weekend getaway especially right now when Delhi’s killing us a little bit with the heat. You can drive down or take a train to Kathgodam and be sure that you’ll receive excellent directions from the hosts. Price: INR 3,030 per night approx. {meals cost a minimum of INR 1,500 per day for two people} Check for available dates and book here.
