Learn Everything About Brothels & The Tawaif Culture On This Sunday Walk

What is it?

Buckle up for a walk-through session in the most infamous place of the capital city, GB Road, on Sep 24. This event is an effort of the organisation ‘Go In The City’ of over three months, to raise and talk about the issue of ‘Flesh Trade’; the misconceptions on the lives of the prostitutes and courtesans which have been so impeccably corrupted by the Bollywood industry and the elites with political backgrounds who still come around to these ‘Red Light’ areas for occasional pleasures. This event is an effort to bring back the lost culture of dancing and singing, which the audience today so easily misinterprets for seduction.

Who is it for?

Anyone who has always been fascinated by art and history, wants to understand the Tawaif culture and is curious to know why and how the taboo around sex workers came into existence should book a spot right away.

Why Should I Go For It?

To study the last remaining ‘Kotha’ that belonged to the Tawaif Culture in Chawri Bazar, and to get a better understanding of the lives of the women living here, to find out how GB Road came into existence in the first place and to just get a better understanding of a completely different part of the city.

And well, don’t you want to do something different this year?

Anything Else?

Go-In-The-City is an initiative to raise relevant issues in Delhi that need the utmost attention of the people. They are working on other mass level awareness projects as well, such as- raising issues on the forgotten havelis, which were so politically and culturally active once; they work on Sufi trails, to bring back the era of Ghalib and other forgotten Urdu poets.
