Sometimes all a restaurant hub needs is a cuisine that's missing from the mix and one that is executed perfectly. So when we heard that a Mediterranean cafe was opening at Cyberhub, we were thrilled. Not that you can't find a Mezze platter there, it's practical on every possible menu albeit not very inviting or inspiring, that's where Cafe Mez comes in. It has so much going for it, the location, so close to the parking it's delightful, and the cafe twins with Wine Company in terms of shared space, so you can either pop in for wine cocktails before your meal or order some of the city's finest wines with your Mediterranean feast and a chef who's extremely proficient in her craft. The feeling of fresh and feisty starts as you enter the white and indigo interiors complete with cane lamp shade and lots of tall green palms.
Start your binge with Turkish tea (or wine for that matter), order all the Mezze, seriously! But if you must choose, then I say you go with the Smoked Labneh, creamy and smoky, just as promised. Add Muhammara, Sumac Chicken and Kofta Hummus to this, which is exactly as delicious as it sounds, juicy lamb meatballs topped over lush hummus, by now you will realize, it's an ideal place for groups, there is so much to eat! The mezze comes with fluffy house-made pita, so wipe it all clean with that. For the main course, try the Lahmacun, the flattest bread, thinnest crust pizza ever, absolutely flavourful and the best ones are - classic lamb and marinated feta. Among the larger plates, we loved the Persian Seafood Stew and Rose Petal Lamb Chops, perfectly seared and stellar portions. I suggest you keep space for the kebabs because no Med meal is complete without them, the Iranian Lamb Koobideh is absolutely unmissable. Close your meal with the Ponchiki, a doughnut type of pastry that hails from East Europe, the one here is filled with Nutella and it's heavenly.
Cafe Mez is an all-day diner and also serves luscious sweet breakfast plates, that include an unusual and brilliant, Palestinian Yogurt Bowl. Bring the kids and order the skillet pancakes, fluffier than you can imagine, there is always Nutella of course but the Apple Cinnamon ones qualify as dessert! Cafe Mez is delicious, comfort food with zero pretensions and a whole lotta heart. It's a place for family, friends and even date night considering the wine!
