The Grog Head for Heady Cocktails and Hearty Food

Shortcut

The Grog Head is the latest gastro pub to grace South Delhi. Head there for strong, delicious cocktails and hearty food.

Arrival, at last

After spending a long time trying to find parking {we gave up and parked in Green Park market}, we made it to The Grog Head, right off the Aurobindo Marg main road. We entered to comforting pseudo-rustic interiors, with the two main elements being wood and metal, and sat down on one of the plush, comfortable couches.

While we had arrived to eat food, we soon found that they had an expert mixologist {his name is Amit, if you want to make friends} and decided to also try their cocktails. While we waited on the drinks, we combed through the extensive menu and decided we liked the sound of the Gin and Tonic Chicken for a main, and the Peri Peri Fish as an appetiser.

Getting the munchies

As Amit prepared our drinks behind the bar with flair and a practiced skill, we devoured the fish. It arrived on a sizzler plate {don’t you love that?}, and smelt divine. We smeared on some of the accompanying peri peri sauce and then bit into the succulent morsels of fish. It was delightful; like a light tandoori-style fish with all that is good about peri peri flavours. A perfect bar snack, albeit served as an appetiser.

The Gin and Tonic Chicken arrived, and we were taken aback by the size of the dish. It took all our intestinal muscles, and no little amount of will power, to finish it. Well cooked, with a nice hot sauce and grilled veggies on the side, it was enjoyable {though the fish was definitely the winner}.

Time to drink

The cocktails arrived thick and fast. We had decided to test Amit’s skill and ordered a series of drinks with different bases. The winners for us were the Naughty Babaji, an Old Monk-based spiced drink, the Ballerina, an easy to drink vodka-based orange drink, and the Capitalist, an intense bourbon-based drink served like a Manhattan.

A new watering hole

The Grog Head also has a delightful rooftop, where they hold Sunday brunches, and great Wednesday deals for ladies {they drink free from six to nine in the evening}, but on the quality of their food and the strength of their cocktails we will definitely be visiting again.
