What Makes It Awesome

While their restaurant in Saket remains closed for now, Mahabelly is currently delivering delightful South Indian cuisine in South Delhi. They have also curated a special, "Home Made Better Menu" during the Covid-19 lockdown, that consists of dishes like Amrit's Dal Khichdi, Lemon Rice, Appan & Stew, and so on. All the items under this menu are under INR 220. Their regular menu is also up and running, if you want more options for your meal at home.

The unlimited thali at Mahabelly is of epic proportions and serves up hot and beautifully balanced comfort food to your heart's content. The meal that is reminiscent of the Onam Sadhya features a tart pachadi, a mild and coconutty avial, a sprightly thoran and a peppery rasam. Pair all these delicious steaming sides with white or red matta rice, or a flaky Malabar porotta.

The best part - the deal includes unlimited appams, and for those who like a bit of crunch in their meal can eat papads as many as you want as well. End with the gently sweet jaggery laden payasam.

What Could Be Better

The thali could include one rotating side - a veggie small plate that's different every time. We were eyeing the okra masala as we thought of this.

Pro-Tip

Meat-lovers can add a bit of a zing and fire to their thali by ordering a side to go with it. The Erachi fry is chunky and laced with curry leaves and works well with the porotta, or pick the Meen Moilly for a fleshy fish treat that's mild but very indulgent and could put you in snooze mode as you mop it off with the appams.
