I would always walk past this tiny but adorable little cafe with a striped yellow canopy and always wonder what goes on inside. With a name like Melthouse, I figured there were all sorts of comfort food going on in the kitchen. So we ordered to the car once and we had the best ever sandwiches and cookies with milkshakes. Real cheese melts made with excellent bread, an insane variety of fillings and the cookies were baked fresh, giant ones that qualify as desserts and the milkshakes were the ultimate thick shakes in the whole of G Town
Then we got the news that the little Melthouse is now bigger, with a sit-down bistro called 'The Library by Melthouse'. It's a compact space but very pretty has full NYC vibes from the doorway to the interiors which much like the name looks and feels like a cosy library that serves up some seriously good food. There's a cute bar by the corner, where the shakes happen, there's a wall of books and a smattering of tables from indoors and outdoors. The staff is friendly and well versed with the menu and their suggestions really worked for us. Even though the extended menu has pasta and an amazing Nashville Hot Fried Chicken, we went back for their classics, the sandwiches. The Classic Melt has 4 different types of cheese with a slather of wholegrain mustard and a fig and onion jam that they ought to bottle. For a heartier veggie option, the Mushroom and Caramelized Onion Melt has scorched balsamic mushrooms and a mix of Himalayan gruyere, cheddar and Emmental, doesn't get better than that. We're actually pretty big meat eaters, so our order was more on the lines of the Melt House Fried Chicken Sandwich, an enormous Sammy with buttermilk marinated fried chicken and an amazing spicy sauce. They also have a Persian Mutton Kebab Sandwich and a Ghee Roasted Chettinad Chicken Sandwich which sound great but the Lamb Soft Tacos are a given in our order.
Add a side of the loaded fries with jalapenos, guacamole and sour cream, though they also have regular fries with a variety of seasonings, the good thing is they don't do bag fries, they do house-made, hand-cut. For drinks, do not miss their Cookie Shake, it's made with their in-house cookies. They also have a delightful skillet cookie dessert, order that with your meal so that it comes piping hot from the oven by the time you're ready for dessert. In fact, order the cookies to go as well, they're actually baked fresh and our favourite is the choco-chip walnut. The outdoor space is super romantic at night with glittering fairy lights and a lovely vibe coupled with the aroma of cheese melts and cookies
