What Makes It Awesome

A lesser-known wonder of Himalayas is this gorgeous temple complex – Masroor Rock Cut Temple. Tucked away amidst rural Himachal, just 38 kilometres away from the bustling town of Kangra, these temples are some spectacular examples of Indo-Aryan architecture. The entire complex comprises of 15 Shikhara temples and a rectangular pond in front of the temples. Made of a single rock, these Intricate carvings and beautifully ornamented sculptures reflect the skills and represents an early {possibly, the earliest} example of Nagara style in architecture.

The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva who is believed to have set foot on this holy ground. The idols of Lord Ram, Sita, and Laxman are also placed here, making this ancient temple so sacred among the Hindu pilgrims.

What Could Be Better?

There are no good restaurants close by to this place.

What's My Pro Tip?

This temple is near Dharamshala, its splendid structure built with a cruciform design has a striking similarity with the temple of Angkor Wat in Cambodia and Kailasa Temple at Ellora, so keep a day to visit it and take lots of photographs.

Anything Else?

The promising local topography – steep rock ridge – Masroor Temples rise above the surrounding landscape like ordinary structures. From the temple complex opens a fine view of Dhauladhar ranges and the Beas valley.
