Gifts, Clothes, Everything: This Thrift Shop’s Going On Sale & Lots Of Stuff Starts At INR 50!

Shortcut

We love the ever-so-chaotic thrift shop at Lajpat Bhawan. So when we heard that it was holding a Diwali sale to bring out all their loot, we decided to check out what was in store. An hour later, we walked out with a Lucknowi kurta, a boho top from Next and a checked boxy top, all for 300 bucks. Seriously.

Loot At Sight

On Monday and Friday mornings for the next two weeks, the volunteers at Lajpat Bhawan gift shop will lay out all the racks and cartons in the sun. Hours of intense sifting and sorting through donated stuff made them realise that they had a lot more to offer than on a usual day. So, they decided to go all out and announce a Diwali Bonanza.

Some of these products are things that the volunteers have donated – jackets worn twice at formal dinners, sparkly blouses that don’t fit anymore or just lone shower gels whose aromas don’t appeal to their sensibilities. Then, there are factory rejects or boutique extras along with some glittery dresses that some tailor dropped off. It’s a treasure trove really. The more you seek, the more you’ll find.

Not Just Clothes...

Clothes not your thing? You could do with some Diwali gifts for sure. Go raid through their crockery closet for glasses, teapots and dinner sets or rummage through the cartons for other home knick knacks. We found original Tanjore paintings they were selling for INR 1,500. Plus, there are the usual candles, artefacts, framed artworks, cushion covers, bedcovers and more to pick from.

You just have to channel that inner Sarojini pro and patiently move the hangers around to find all the good stuff. Bags, shoes, children’s lehngas {at INR 300!}, strollers {INR 1,500}, board games and a whole world of pre-loved things. Oh, and there’s a whole rack of silk suits for INR 200 and a section of wedding-y clothes that are individually priced. Now these are not run-off-the-mill offerings that make it to the store on other days. Hence, a special bunk day to lay your hands on all the sale stuff will be totally worth your while.

So, We're Saying...

All the money from the sale will go towards giving the slum children a better life. You’re supporting a cause as well as being a conscious shopper by reducing mindless wastage. So much good on you, guys.
