Whenever someone mentions Matkapeer, your mind first goes to the miraculous powers of the Matka Peer Dargah and then automatically to biryani. In this Delhi neighbourhood, these two elements have always gone hand in hand, and according to legends, the Matkapeer biryani stalls existed since the inception of the dargah. And what better time to pay homage to this historic landmark than during the holy month of Ramzan? A month of both prayer and celebration.
The dargah has some of the city’s most iconic biryani joints tucked away into its compound such as Babu Shahi Bawarchi’s biryani. It is believed that they were one of the first biryani restaurants in the area. But just like them, there are many more hidden in the pockets of Matkapeer.
