Airy kurtas and dresses, colourful cushion covers, and the odd handbag or two, all in handwoven, artisan-crafted Ikat. Does this sound like your kind of scene? Then, head to Translate and be bowled over with their extensive handwoven Ikat collection.
Translate (We went to the Hauz Khas Village outlet) lures you in with its summery dresses and kurtas hanging temptingly at the display window. Step inside, and you’ll be 'trapped' in a maze of Indonesian ikat. We’re used to the print in dark colours such as blues and reds, the dominant colour here is white. The kurtas start at INR 6,800.
Expect loose billow-y tunics and dresses in mostly whites and pastels, embellished with colourful weaves. Perfect for a brunch in the sun. They also have a few in darker earthy bases, which we’re saving for evening scenes.
If you’re looking for something more traditional, it might be worth perusing their kurta rack which houses a multitude of colours from bright yellow to scarlet to indigo to jet black. We personally have a soft corner for Translate's black and white creations. Their scarves, we feel, are great gifts for your gal pals or even your mother. You can get the scarves for INR 2,900.
While you’re replenishing your wardrobe, don’t forget your home. Translate houses a bunch of cushion covers ranging from the mini ones to the ones meant for super-sized floor cushions. And they’re SO pretty! We strongly recommend picking up a few for your home or as a housewarming gift. The cushion covers start at INR 1,600.
