Spend A Week In Ladakh Trekking & Restoring A 500-Year-Old Village

Shortcut

Little Local is looking for eight-12 travel companions for a restoration and documentation project that’ll seek to bring the centuries-old village of Hinaskot to life. But hey, it’s not just a scenic history class. There are also treks, local food and a wood carving workshop.

See The Unseen Side Of Ladakh

We’re loving that there’s no diktat on who can join this expedition because imagine if it were only open to archaeologists or history students?

But like we said, they’re more welcoming than that. So photographers, travellers, artists, architects and those whose heart belong to the hills can all hop on to the flight.

The group will stay in the mountain village that has a population of less than 400. A typical day will involve soaking in the local culture and taking meticulous notes of the folklore and indigenous traditions that might soon be lost to the world. Think sketching sessions, folk songs and whole lot of empathetic listening.

These learnings will then translate into concrete plans and hopefully, your contribution will involve making an abandoned little home rise from its ashes {metaphorically speaking, of course}.

Leave A Mark Behind

If you’re a holiday-loving free spirit hoping to touch people’s lives in a good way, this might be the perfect plan. You’ll interact with the local artisans and even get back a knitted something or a rickety bow and arrow you learn to make on the project. On your way back, you’ll make pit stops at monasteries too. So much good, right?

Little Local is positive that something valuable will come out of this exercise – the last time, the participants collected more than 70 artifacts in another village and put them all in a museum!

So, We're Saying...

You’ll be staying three nights at a hotel in Leh and another five nights at a homestay.

This offbeat, once-in-a-lifetime trip will cost you INR 25,999 which if you ask us, is quite a deal considering most of your expenses will be paid for and you’ll be doing none {absolutely, none} of the usual touristy stuff. The cost, in fact, goes even lower {INR 24,699} if you book before March 25.

In case you want to know more about what Little Local does, check out their website here and there’s also a whole bunch of info. on their FB page for this particular trip.
