Note: I reached out to a handful of men for inputs on this list also, who all contributed in vague ways such as "should be something nice" or "whatever works". Except one person who said travel vouchers, which has been duly noted. But the general consensus remains that men are useless.

"I got so many bath and bodycare sets that I think I will never have to buy shower gel or moisturiser again, and while that is great, I really wish more people factored in that I would be moving to a new house and building it from scratch. While home decor is very personal, although there are some safe bets that can be made there, home appliances are a no-brainer. The couple you give them to will be genuinely thankful, since these are necessities and they can focus their energies and finances to making their home fit their style.

A great bet would be a good air fryer, but if you're on a tighter budget, a good set of blenders is a gift that will genuinely make your giftees happy."

"Here's something fresh I found happens after you get married — people really want to visit you! I don't know why this happens honestly, maybe people who feel bad about missing your wedding wish to come and give their blessings, or they want you to feel, well, not insignificant after all the shaadi attention is taken away from you. Either way, you have to really be on top of your impromptu hosting game for a while after your wedding is out of the way. And really nothing says 'ace host' like a good set of platters, trays, salad bowls, the likes. I love this platter from Ellementry (which I got for myself only), but if your newlywed friends like hosting, here's what you should give them."

If I had a dollar for every woman who told me they would have loved if they got a Dyson for her wedding gift, I would have around 25 dollars (I ran out of newly-married people to ask, but it was the popular choice!).

"I think anything that I could use to pamper myself would have hit it out of the park. Spa or travel vouchers that I could use later, staycation vouchers, or even a at-home self-care kit. But what would have been probably even better than the whole getting married thing would have been if my friends pooled in and got me the Dyson air-wrap. I wouldn't drop hints for that because, well, I'm not entitled to what gifts someone gives out of their own heart, but, yes, that would be a hit. And you can be sure your friend will think of you every time they use it!"

"Before I got married and set up a new house with a whole another person, I never would have that thought I would be wishing that people gifted me art, because I believe it is a very personal thing. But when the time came, I was so caught up in setting up basics like furniture and kitchen appliances, that I didn't get around to putting some happiness on my walls till much later. If you know what your friends' tastes are, find them something thoughtful they would like. Or if you want to still play safe, gift them something abstract in the colours they like. They might not realise in the moment, but they will come around to appreciating it."

"I'm letting my mental real estate be occupied by what sofa colour I want, so do the small stakes stuff like gifting a coffee table or a bookshelf in the general vicinity of my taste if you truly call yourself my friend."

"I moved into my husband's home, where he lives with his big family, and while they've accommodated all my efforts to make it look like a room which reflects my personality as well, the shortage of space is real! I never had this problem in my own studio apartment because I lived alone. But I think given my particular situation, jewellery and makeup organisers would have made for thoughtful gifts."

"I have enough wine bottles to last me a lifetime (or a year if we're being realistic), thanks to the post-wedding reception I hosted. And while I got some really nice crockery sets, I would have loved a nice set of tall, margarita or martini glasses, so I would be drinking cocktails out of those and not coffee mugs on chill Friday nights."
