One business that stayed "in business" even during the COVID-19 pandemic was the wedding business. No matter if the government allowed 50 people or 500, weddings are one such event that people like to celebrate. Now this celebration could be anything, as grand as Ambani weddings or as minimal and lowkey as Sonakshi Sinha's wedding, but one thing's for sure — weddings today are no longer just about just the D-day, They’re a multi-day celebration of love, individuality, and experience and over the years every wedding ritual and function has seen a major shift in them. Modern couples are redefining traditions to reflect their personalities and values in ever the smallest details of their wedding (been there!). To understand these shifting wedding trends and how festivities are being reimagined, we spoke with Anjali Tolani, Vice President – Celebrations at Tamarind Global, who shared her insights on the changing landscape of Indian weddings.

Wedding Trends 2025-2026
Overall Shift In Wedding Festivities & Functions
The wedding season for 2025–26 is characterised by the balancing act of romantic restraint and cinematic scale. Today’s brides and grooms-to-be want weddings that are memorable, visually stunning, and emotionally intimate. Enter the slow wedding, where each detail of the event—the chosen smells and the fully immersive music—is designed to spark feelings rather than bombard the senses. We have noticed that the couples getting married today want their weddings to reflect the journey they have taken together, not to follow trends. So whether it be a lavish palace experience or a nature-themed destination wedding, the focus is on emotion, connection, and timeless elegance. The emphasis is not on scale, but on soul, not on spectacle, but sentiment.
Currently Popular Wedding Decor Trends/Aesthetics
The decor for the coming seasons is all about elevated minimalism and sensory storytelling. Couples are gravitating toward monochromatic palettes and layered tonalities — creamy ivories, earthy neutrals, soft metals — rather than the traditional pop of blaring colours. The aesthetic feels calm, purposeful, and tactile. Materials such as stone, rattan, and linen are used alongside muted florals and ambient lighting to create spaces that feel more organic and natural in terms of livability. Reconstituted materials, dried florals, and natural textiles, to the exclusion of their synthetic counterparts, are giving the decor a more grounded sense of luxury.
Evolving Lighting And Floral Design
The dimension of lighting and floral design has graduated from decorative embellishment to a core narrator of the wedding experience. Lighting now has many emotive qualities. Couples are opting for lit experiences that change throughout the evening, amber hues for the vows, dynamic projection mapping on the dance floor, and candlelit passageways to create intimacy. Floral design, on the other hand, is moving toward the architectural. Florals now have a more sculptural format, floating installations, and organic wildflower meadows — less ornamental and more experiential.
Changing Framework Of Indian Weddings
Instead of the week-long bashes of earlier, couples are opting for speedier, more selective itineraries in which each social event serves a purpose. We have observed a definite trend toward multi-destination celebrations, for instance, engagements in the hills, weddings at a royal home, and post-marriage brunches on the beach. Functions are more and more themed, but not in a theatrical way. An example is "modern mehendi in hues of Tuscany," or "retro sangeet in forms of old Bombay glam." Even the rituals are becoming more inclusive and cosy; the small group of guests and the brief interactions among themselves are replacing traditional formalities. The great role of technology comes to the fore with video calls, digital itineraries, and virtual meetings, which shorten distance.
Changes In Pre-wedding & Post-wedding Events
Pre- and post-wedding festivities have transformed from utilitarian gatherings into experiential extensions of the couple’s story. Welcome dinners are fashioned as intimate cultural evenings with curated menus and live instrumental music. Brunches take on a chic playfulness, set among lush gardens, with fashion-themed aesthetics, statement florals, and candid photo opportunities. We have seen the rise of after-parties as designed spectacles. A newer trend gaining popularity is the Content Night, a bespoke evening for guests and couples to capture cinematic reels and portraits shot under professional lighting on curated sets. Post-wedding celebrations, particularly after destination weddings, are now about decompressing in style — beach brunches, barbecue and poolside, and cultural excursions for guests.
New In Wedding Entertainment Concept
Entertainment at weddings has transformed from simple background music to a fully immersive storytelling experience. The ultimate goal is to have guests engaged to the point where every guest is involved, yet still feel how the host couple wants to show them as a couple. DJs and live bands hold their own, but now couples design experiences with a sporty, emotional feel. Think multi-sensory performances that utilise aerial performances synchronised with projection mapping, as well as musical performances, to tell the couple's story. Then there are AI playlists to create music based on the level of action the crowd shows, holographic projections on stage to create visual effects, and photo booths using AR.
Ways To Make Weddings More Personal & Story-Driven
Today's weddings are no longer elaborate but meaningful. Couples want every element of the celebration to reflect who they are and where they have been together. We are seeing a rise in décor that tells a story, handwritten vows on table napkins, portraits of the couple illustrated on stationery and installations that draw inspiration from shared experiences, such as favourite travel destinations and songs. Performances are becoming autobiographical, choreographed accounts of friends and family members presenting vignettes and musical montages of significant milestones. Even culinary design has become personal signature cocktails, celebrating inside jokes, menu items inspired by cuisines taken from family recipes, and dessert tablets based on chosen ethnic cuisines.

Popular Wedding Destinations Within India & Abroad
India is still a paradise for destination weddings, with Udaipur, Jaipur, Jodhpur and Goa leading the way in timeless charm and versatility. The modern couple has started to look out for Alibaug, Coorg and even Mussoorie for understated luxury and the touch of nature. Across the world, Italy is still at the forefront, especially in Lake Como and Tuscany, for its charming mix of romance and heritage. Bali, Greece and Turkey offer scenic locations with a touch of cultural vibrancy, while the new stars on the horizon are Portugal and Oman, which promise exclusivity, luxury hospitality, and good logistical facilities. We have seen the current trends shift towards experience-based destinations.

Designers Gaining Traction In The Wedding Business
The classics — Manish Malhotra, Sabyasachi, Tarun Tahiliani, and Falguni Shane Peacock — continue to rule Indian bridal couture, but the new breed of couples is flocking to minimalist, contemporary designers as well as those who amalgamate global traditions with modern sensibility. Gaurav Gupta’s sculptural drapes, Seema Gujral’s sparkle minimalism and Jade by Monica & Karishma’s romantic pastels are the bridal picks for 2025. Kunal Rawal and Shantnu & Nikhil, meanwhile, have completely redefined menswear, integrating structure with comfort and understated elegance.
There’s a distinct movement towards versatile couture, which can work very well from pheras to after-parties, blending elegance with practicality.

Take On Musical Pheras
Musical Pheras are now one of the most delightful trends of 2025 and are changing the emotional core of weddings. Instead of the usual silence between the mantras, the couples are choosing live, soulful music that underscores each ritual. Think of soft instrumental orchestration, devotional chant ideas given a string touch, or live voices singing the vows to each other. Cinematographic" is often a description given by guests, and yet it is filled with deep emotion where the music heightens the excitement of affection, of reverence, of togetherness.
