The pandemic may have taken a chef out of a (commercial) kitchen but it couldn’t take the kitchen out of a Chef, that’s home for them and they will figure out a way to stay in one! Take Chef Nandita Shamlal for instance, her play on words to make everyone’s ‘Weak Easy’ when going out or even ordering out hasn’t been all that easy, has created a home-based delivery service called Weakeasy that boasts of a new menu every week! Her team includes Social Media wiz Nirja Dutt, Punita Shamlal aka Mom, the expert manager and sous chef Bahadur, together they serve up an essentially South American inspired menu that’s changed up every week. I won’t call her food fusion because what does that even mean (?!) but it’s definitely nouvelle.
From on-point references that came up in the menu inspired by the show, Friends, the ‘No Nail Lasagne’ was absolutely legendary or the loaded Burritos that need two hands to the enormous limited-edition cookies and giant Asian Burgers, it’s all there. The whole premise is to do offbeat, small menus that are very often thematic as well, there’s been a Harry Potter one with butterbeer cookies, a Game of Thrones one that turned into a pop up at a leading restaurant. Weekeasy also does secret menus with limited stocks released only for their broadcast list (so remember to join that for sure!). All their deliveries are contactless with personal riders and at times third party apps.
