Sanatan Sangeet Sanskriti and IIC are putting together a two-day festival {Feb 24 – 25}, Words In The Garden, that celebrates literature, arts and ideas.

The Lowdown

The festival proposes to explore and celebrate Delhi through discussions, readings, exhibitions and performances by renowned personalities, such as Urdu poet Shamsur Rahman Faruqi, filmmaker, designer and artist Muzaffar Ali, journalist, Saeed Naqvi, poet, editor and cultural activist Ashok Vajpeyi, musician Pandit L.K Pandit, architects, environmentalists, social scientists, entrepreneurs, and more.

The Plot Thickens…

The speakers come together and shine a light on Delhi with four overarching themes; city, nature, love and loneliness. The titles of each session are verses of Meer Taqi Meer’s poetry {Meer was a legendary Urdu poet who lived in Delhi in the 1700s, and was majorly influenced by the above subjects often associated with the city}.

The sessions are structured in the following fashion; Rahi Nagufta Mere Dil Mein Dastaan Meri {it’s unspoken}. In this session, a graphic novelist, a writer, a photographer and an artist/curator come together to discuss the visual narrative that is Delhi or Zamana Nazuk Hai {times are fragile} where a dancer and two painters talk about how love inspires classical dance and visual arts.

All this talk will be interspersed with musical performances by one of the finest classical vocalists of today, Kalapini Komkali, the daughter of Kumar Gandharv and Basanti aur Rahza,{ a duo whose music is inspired by famous poets and musicians like Kabir, Faiz Ahmed, Ghalib and Iqbal Bano}!

Rupali is an unapologetic foodie with a vocabulary to match. She has a 'unique' sense of humour and you can never be sure what the voices in her head are whispering while you have a perfectly pleasant meal with her. She also claims to be shy {if you see her out in public, go say 'hi!'} Her business card says Graphic Designer and she runs her own firm - there is also, unsurprisingly, 'healthy junk food' all over her office so help yourself when you're there!
