Catch the director's cut of Andrei Tarkovsky masterpiece in its 50th anniversary year as part of the 'Movies at the Museum' programme. 'Andrei Rublev' is considered Tarkovsky’s first masterpiece; the work where his signature language as a director manifested itself fully for the first time. This movie is not only about this one artist, but even more so about how man, despite living through a challenging period in history, can survive and triumph in spite of contemporary political and social difficulties. The film is set in the early 15th century in Russia and consists of eight parts, each focusing on a certain moment in the life of Andrei Rublev (c. 1360s-1430), an icon painter. It has come to be regarded as one of the greatest films of all time.The screening will be followed by a Q&A between the audience and the curators of the programme. This programme is free and open to all. Museum entry charges will apply.
