Kathputliyaan Theatre Group celebrates its two play festival with Zikr-e-Ghalib and Tipu Sultan ke Khwaab. Zikr – e – Ghalib is conceptualisted as a nostalgic flashback when Ghalib finds copies of his letters and an unfinished biography in conversations written to his friends and family. Further it’s a confluence of his selected Ghazals bringing a momentum of Ghalib’s thoughts visualized in a dance form. This play is based on a selection of poems and other edited portions of his letters (Khutooth) and Ghazals. Mirza Asadullah Khan Ghalib was a Noble poet in Moghul Delhi’s twilight years before the revolt of 1857. Mirza Ghalib is the most famous and popular of the Urdu poets that our sub-continent has ever produced. His frankness, sense of humour and good nature along with his liberal thought with regards to traditional Muslim culture made him a legend in his own life span. Tipu Sultan Ke Khwaab - The figure of Tipu Sultan has continued to dominate Indian and British imagination for over 2 centuries as the endless flow of scholarly works, ballads, plays and novels about his tempestuous life and tragic end. However, what is less known is that, Tipu Sultan spent a large part of his life on horseback, maintained a record of his dreams, which he kept concealed from his close associates. Tipu Sultan ke Khwaab examines the inner life of this warrior, political visionary and dreamer. The English version of this play was commissioned by the BBC and broadcast in Britian on the fiftieth anniversary of Indian Indpendence.
