The National Gallery of Modern Art Bengaluru presents Sculpting In Time, an exhibition of a lifetime of creative works by Sri Balan Nambiar, curated by Sadanand Menon. The catalogue design and exhibit displays are by Rm Palaniappan. The exhibition spans six decades of Balan Nambiars artistic journey, starting with his student days. The earliest work in the exhibition was done in 1957. The exhibition comprises drawings in Indian ink, charcoal, pastels and paintings in watercolour and oils. Indoor and outdoor sculptures in bronze, mild steel and stainless steel are also on show.
Also being shown for the very first time are a selection of the artist’s photographs documenting Teyyam and Bhuta and other ritual art forms, some of them now extinct.
