Oh, how can life be so cruel. Just when Bangalore got it's first SPI Cinemas and we hoped we'd get all the trimmings we're used to at the iconic Sathyam in Chennai, PVR has gone and bought it over. Or at least about 70% of it. Aiming to expand their reach across the south, the cinemas giants PVR will now have control over more screens in Chennai, and well as over cities in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra.
Known for one of the most satisfying cinema-going experiences in the country, we're hoping that they will retain the multiple topping popcorn, the cheap ticket rates and the lovely recliner chairs that have become synonymous with SPI Cinema screens across the country, especially Sathyam. But SPI Cinemas, as we currently know it, will be gone. Excuse us while we bawl into a bucket, and then order some popcorn from Sathyam.
