Having stood the test of time, a testament to the old and the new of the city, Airlines Hotel in central Bangalore has been an emotion to the many who've thronged the place over the years. One could equate the iconic establishment to an indelible paw mark on the city's ever changing landscape. In existence even before the birth of this author, the humble darshini once (and still) known for its Filter Coffee and South-Indian breakfast now sells North-Indian and Chinese food as well. The constants are the open air seating of the place, the calming canopy of trees overhead and some healthy banter about anything within the political spectrum with the helpers working there.
Here’s what you must have once you step foot into the place -- A warm Filter Coffee, the notes of which will blend perfectly with the serene backdrop of the giant banyan tree. As you sip your coffee, indulge in some greasy goodness of the Masala Dosa that comes with lightly spiced alugadde palya. Also order a side of Chow Chow Bhath that includes Kesari Bhath, a sweet made from semolina, raisins and Khara Bhath, a white, lightly spiced savoury version of semolina with veggies. Tiffin is ideally what we suggest you head here for but if you’re here during lunch, feel free to order their thali, chats, or their South-Indian Mini Lunch. Apt for a casual hangout with friends, we highly recommend this place for a good ol reunion with your once long-time buddies as you reminisce and rejoice.
