Dosa, Bisi Bele Bath And Meals: All Cottonians Know Why Amruth Is Bae

Aditi posted on 9th March

Ten-Second Takeaway

An eternal favourite due to lack of funds and proximity, Amruth, an old-school darshini, is every Cottonians top spot. Plus, their Bisi Bele Bath, idlis and meals are delicious and super budget-friendly.

Who Is It For?

The broke but fabulous scholars from the nearby schools, office-goers looking for a quick lunch or a hearty breakfast before hitting a meeting. It’s also a great option for those exercising in Cubbon Park to refuel at post workout.

What Is The Ambience Like?

A typical South Indian darshini, this one is in the basement of a building just across from Bishop Cotton Girls School. With an AC room for families with table and sofa set up towards the back, and a high table, stand-around format that spills onto outside of the eatery, it is a comfortable place. But you don’t really go for ambience here.

Must Eat

Bisi Bele Bath, Dosa, Idli, South Indian meals.

How Was My Experience?

A patron for the past 15 years, so I may be a bit partial to Amruth. But going by the crowds here, its quality is still decent. They have old-school coupon systems in place, so place your order at the counter, and take your coupons to the service section. While they do offer plenty of North Indian food and Chinese dishes, I recommend you stick to South Indian food here. Be it the piping hot sambhar with idli, vada, dosa, the legendary Bisi Bele Bhath, Kesari Bhath or meals {with sambhar, rasam, a veggie curry, chapathis and a bowl of rice}, you will be full to the gills, and you wallet only slightly lighter.

Make sure to end every meal with a cup of filter coffee, of course. If you’re hell-bent on other cuisines, pick paneer mattar, naans, Gobi Manchurian and vegetable pulao. Best not explore too much further, unless you’re very experimental!

#LBBTip

They’re closed on Sundays, so don’t make plans for then.
