A Shiva temple which was built in the 12th century by the kings of Hoysala is only 200 km away from Bangalore. There are about a thousand figures on walls depicting tales from the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. The outstanding monument, made of soapstone with amazing intricate carvings inside and outside the temple, truly reflects the Hoysala architecture.
You will need at least a couple of hours to explore the grounds and take some amazing pictures. There are guides near the temple should you wish to know more about history.
