Touted to be the city’s first restobar housed inside shipping containers, Bangalore Box, off Bannerghatta Road, has funky and functional decor, a global menu and plenty of Instagram spots.

We Are Shipping it

We’re still wondering whether this restaurant’s concept is out of the box or very much inside it! But then again, it is a restaurant that puts everything inside 10 large, metal containers. Yup, three floors entirely housed inside shipping containers and featuring recycled decor, the Bangalore Box is one to check out for the experience, if not the food. The recycled decor is what steals the show with missiles made out of oxygen tanks, spanners and wrenches for door handles, and fabrication sheets for floors. So much to Instagram, y’all!

Set across two floors, you can slide into one of the booths for a cosy date {or work meeting}, or snap up a table for the boisterous gang dinner. The rooftop and al fresco {which double up as space for stand-up comedy performances, corporate events and live gigs} are ideal if you like the fresh air for company. If you are wondering about melting inside a metal box once the summer sets in, don’t. The whole place is air-conditioned. This is clearly not steerage!

The Grubonomics

Once you’re done taking photos, settle down with a global menu that features over 100 dishes. Anyone who’s got a problem with extensive menus, we suggest you stick to the appetisers and bar bites. Start off with the Kulfi Sticks, which despite what the name might suggest, aren’t desserts. Deep-fried, crumb coated vegetarian or chicken mince, they are served in shot glasses with either garlic-tomato mayo or tadka mayo. Fans of dim sum and baos, we recommend the Basil-Chicken and Waterchestnut and Mushroom dim sums, and the Teriyaki Chicken Bao. Paneer Cracker, Fish {basa} wrapped in banana leaves, Sriracha Chicken, and Orange Prawns are perfect for a larger groups, as they are good to share. We are heading back to try their sandwiches and burgers. Who wants a butter chicken sandwich? Or a Chicken Ghee Roast burger? Pastas, Thai curries and Chindian options make up the rest of the menu.

If you’re up for trying new drinks, pick Midori Illusion {vodka-based} and Fusion Frapochino {Baileys + Coffee}. Otherwise, there’s the classics, bottled beer, and IMFL to sort out the drinks scene.

So, We Are Thinking…

We love the concept and the food is good for that part of the town, it’s still worth a visit. It’s always fun to try new things, isn’t it?
