What Is It?

Bringing joy to all the bibliophiles, literature enthusiasts and aspiring writers in the city, The Bangalore Literature Festival is all set to hit the town. Bringing the who’s who of the literary circles together, this two-day literature extravaganza will bring local, national and international talent as a celebration of the literary diversity this city enjoys and feature many sessions and talks about life and literature that are sure to be thought-provoking.

Who Is It For?

For everyone who spends their free minutes with their noses buried deep in a book. Whether you’re an aspiring writer yourself or just a literature lover, this one is for you. Age is no bar and the organisers promise that there will be something for every reader to enjoy at the event. So bring the little bookworms too as this edition will have plenty for them too. This year’s edition of the festival will include the CLF {Children| Literature| Fun} which is a packed two-day schedule full of workshops, storytelling sessions, games and more for the kiddos. We also recommend you bring that friend who watches the films over reading the books. Maybe this will be a game changer!

Why Should I Go For It?

Just like its precedents, expect to see a long list of big names attending the event, most of whom will be first-time attendees this time round. Get to rub shoulders with literary heavyweights like Ramachandra Guha, Perumal Murugan, Girish Karnad and Twinkle Khanna who will all be presenting interesting talks and sessions at the festival. Hear intellectual talks and debates on a mix of topics with segments like ‘The Writer’s Role in Speaking Out’ by Paul Zacharia and ‘Women in Contemporary Literature’, a session with Ambai Indira Chandrashekar and Anjana Basu. The theme for CLF this time is Everyday EarthDay, with a big focus on the environment and has sessions for readers as young as four years. What’s more, with a bookstore set up at the venue, pick up a book and maybe get it signed by the author who might be right there at the event.

A fan of cricket? Here’s where two of your interests gloriously overlap as cricketing legends like Anil Kumble and Rahul Dravid will be there too. With renowned sports writer Gideon Haigh and Rajdeep Sardesai also there, watch their session on ‘How India’s T20 WC Win Changed Indian and World Cricket’ that is a part of the event schedule too.

If you’re an aspiring writer, your big break might be just around the corner as the festival will feature the fourth edition of LitMart, where you can pitch your literary idea to publishers, editors and agents, with a good chance of getting them published. Read more about it here.
